• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

does anyone know of any healing ministries that could deal with BPD? it can be very difficult for me to follow traditional advice from many ministries. i don't always have the motivation or calmness of mind to read the Bible

I do not know of any healing ministries for mental illness. I have been healing from it, and have changed radically. It has taken years of intensive psychotherapy, and a long term discipleship relationship.

BPD is the result of many factors, including childhood trauma. Get into therapy to work through those issues, and don't try to take a short cut with a healer.

You can use a healing ministry if you like, but God can use many people to aid in a persons healing. The treatment of choice for BPD is DBT therapy (look for a Christan facility that offers this), you also should have psychotherapy and medication.
I started DBT in Oct 2010 and at first it was confusing, but now I am doing better than I ever have~especially in controlling my behaviors, and not over reacting on my perspective.

God Bless!

DBT is one form of therapy recommended for Borderline Personality, but therapists may choose other forms of therapy. My therapist prefers to use plain Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. DBT is one form of CBT.

Also, many insurance companies will not pay for all treatement facilities, and people may have to go with what their insurance pays for. My therapist is not a "Christian" therapist. I have benefitted immensely from his work with me. Many Christian facilities fail to meet the insurance companies' standards for care, and should not be recommended just because they are Christian.

A person's therapist should be licensed, first and foremost. If a Christian therapist is not licensed, then they are not qualified to do the work of psychotherapy.

I happen to be a therapist, a Christian, and licensed. Yet, I work in facilities that are secular.

Thank you for your intelligent and informed perspective. There are many who "blame the Devil" for illnesses such as BPD, and who discourage people from seeking any kind of professional therapy. It is heartening to find one Christian who is not still living in the dark ages.

The best known treatment for BPD is DBT (the thing madison mentioned). It's doing wonders for my wife who's been going at to it for a year now. Whilst prayer and emotional support may make you feel better, DBT seems to be the most reliable long term solution.

Perhaps a combination approach would be best for you?

What I said is that COGNITIVE Behavioral Therapy (CBT), not DBT, is the best form of therapy for Borderlines. DBT is one form of CBT, but there are other forms. My therapist has never used DBT with me, and I have managed to get rid of most of my symptoms.

I did extensive research in graduate school on this topic, as I am a social worker, and the empirical research available to therapists is that CBT is most effective. DBT is not the only form of CBT.

It is best to know what the research done by psychologists and psychiatrists says, before you make blanket statements about the best form of therapy.

I admit that I speak only from experience as a carer. CBT is never used as a BPD treatment in the uk anymore (it was up until around 5 years ago). All mental health units here use DBT nowadays and the national statistics on this is so far it is having a higher success rate than standard CBT. I don't mean to give the impression that it is the only treatment, but that it seems to provide the most consistent results.

That is so true. While no doubt satan will do his best to exploit a person's weaknesses, including mental health problems some Christians blame demons for everything. Plus I hate it when Christians say it is wrong to seek psychiatric help or take medication. All that does is heap a load of guilt on someone who is already suffering and can make matters worse.

how could you not be motivated? read the bible as if it were a reflection of yourself. there is nothing better for a bpd with identity disturbances to look at at christs perfect life and to want to be like Him!

bpd or not, if heavenly father has truly touched your heart you will thirst after his word and find the greatest joy in obeying it :)

mental illnesses ARE NOT demons. they are blessings if you think about it. just like physical illnesses or biological ones are not demons, neither are mental ones. It requires a different approach than non-borderlines but you should use the bpd for what blessings can be found in it. dont think there is some "other life" where youre cured from it and you can worship perfectly. no it will always be there, and in fact it will get harder the more you grow in holiness. dont focus on yourself too much, just remember jesus loves you, and died for you and focus on that. the fruits of the spirit will bloom in this way. God's word will never change, but we have to change ourselves to adapt to it. i hope i have helped some

I believe that demons can inflict illness!

Otherwise i agree with you, diagnoses can become a blessing to you when you are done with them!

Usually women with borderline become a good housewife in my experience! I believe that the cutting in the arms and selfinjury is a way for satan to make the afflicted slave under something... But when the afflicted has overcome this, i believe that God has planned great gifts to her!!!

I showed attributes of bordeline as young when my mother married a junkie.. I cut myself in the arms and stung saftypins through my skin... I stopped doing that before i got the diagnos Impulsive Cluster...

In the end i stopped trusting doctors... even though this is not something i encourage anyone to do... The reason why I stopped trusting doctors is because every new doctor has a new way to describe me! I became so tired of doctors saying what's wrong with me, instead of pointing out the postitive sides I have - So tired i stopped bother about them!

That's the life on institutions - were slavery is called "endurance training" and taking ritalina is done under blackmail. Afterwards when the doctors were done with me I gained trust in a dentists, he actually did something to heal me!! I believe that the dentist worked for God!

Whatever affliction I was under, I became healed from it... There are only two more things i need to be delivered from and that's the smoking habit and my tattoo! I trust in christians, and i say this as a christian myself! I have met an apostle named Zorech, who became my very best freind. He told me that Jesus "...abolished in his flesh the curse of the law, having become a curse for us" and that Jesus is Immanuell!
