  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thats why I take Tylenol. I'm no doctor and some may consider it bad but I think that as long as it's a minimal use you should be okay. Usually you get headaches because a lot of your blood is in your stomach when your not fasting. So when you fast you blood gets an opportunity to cleanse itself which can result in headaches.

I usually get doosies

Try eating. lol, jk. Yeah, cutting back on caffeine is a good idea.

Try drinking lots of water Also try to find the cause of the headache...it might be easier than you think. TV or other types of screens can cause headaches.

Because you get the headache when you fast, it could be a lack of a nutrient. Take some multivitamins. Also, maybe there is a such thing as food withdrawl. Try having a regular eating schedule a few weeks before you fast.

Edit: The last time I had a headache was due to high blood pressure...if my heart started to beat fast, my head would start to throb. So if this is the case for you, I'd take aspirin, as it thins out the blood, reducing blood pressure.

Headaches are usually a sign of detox taking place in your body. That's the good news. The bad news is that the headaches may last for a few days. Drink lots of water (about 1/2 gallon a day) and increase you vitamin C. If you are on a Daniel Fast, eat extra cantaloup and bananas. This is very common.

If the headaches last more than three or four days, however, you might want to call your medical professional. Also, if you get a tug in your spirit that the headaches are anything more than your body going through detox, call you doctor.

Be blessed!

I recommend that people who are interested in fasting on a regular basis detox their bodies first, either by one of those herbal detox kits or by juice fasting (drinking home-made juices from your blender--adding water to the puree).

Through experience, I found that drinking a glass of water with a tablespoon of hydrated bentonite, a tablespoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of metamucil (the sugarless kind) an hour before meals blocks toxins from re-entering the bloodstream via the lower intestines. People who try these detox programs tend to experience panicky sensations as toxins are rapidly extracted from their fatty tissues.

Veggie juices with one clove of garlic/day will cleanse your colon as well as eliminate toxins from your fatty tissues, though it works slower than the herbal detox kits.

Once the majority of toxins are eliminated from your body, you will find much less physical discomfort resulting from water fasts (head and body aches, etc.) and will be free to focus on prayer and other spiritual aspects of water fasting.

It has been my experience that fasting doesn't bring one directly closer to G-d, it shows you how far you are away from Him. It is at that point (usually when you resume eating) that you are able to pray more effectively b/c the fasting exposes deficiencies in your character.

Good fasting!
