Hi there! I'm Marcus and have just registered as a new user, i'm really over here to find out some views first of all about a book i read recently by Rebecca Brown called "He came to set the captives free". Now i am a devout christian but i find it very hard to verify a great deal of the material Miss Brown lays forth.

She is a doctor in a position of trust and understanding but instead of treating certain patients she thinks there illnesses are caused by demons manifesting inside of them and proceeds to chant and "cast out" these creatures instead of using her training and diagnosing the correct problems?

She also claims acuapuncture, yoga, reading horoscopes etc can cause a demon to manifest inside of someone. She talks of leaving her body and becoming an angel and fighting with demons, her co-writer "Elaine" even talks of marrying satan. Having sex with satan, accompanying him on trips and meeting with famous rock stars who have sold there soul to him in return for fame and money.

I would love to hear someones views on this book, am i incorrect in my assessment of Miss Brown? Or am i being unfair? Is this the work of a rational mind or a deluded woman? Your thoughts please.

Have you also read her other books, "A Vessel Of Honour" and "Broken Curses"?
I have "He Came To Set The Captives Free" and I must admit that it was scary. In fact, I found it hard to believe. But, these things do happen. And, due to my having read, and bought "He Came To Set The Captives Free" I also bought her other books.
Rebecca Brown certainly went through alot if they are fact!

True Bevlina, i have since heard that Miss Brown has been struck off as a doctor due to her extreme views. Apparently instead of diagnosing patients correctly she was claiming demonic interference and the hospital thought she was incapable of performing her duties, she tried to cast a spirirt out of a woman with leukemia i heard instead of sending her for chaemotherapy!

I believe that to be true mc. She married Daniel Voder who helped her write 'Unbroken Curses'. Her books are an excellent source to keep us alert as to the witchcraft movement. And what is involved in the Heavy Metal Rock music. They are interesting books. But, by this time Rebecca would be so mind filled about demonic influence she'd possibly look on every patient as having demonic problems instead of medical.
Still, her books are good reading. She has exposed alot in all 3 of the ones I have.
Especially in T.V. games etc; I would still recommend the youth of today to read them. They'd be in for an enormous surprise if they did!

It has been many years since I read that book. There definitely are outrageous claims made by the author. As to wether these things actually happened to her or not, Im not to say. However we live in a supernatural and spiritual world. I would not be shocked to find out that things described in her book were fact. The bible speaks of things like spirits "knowing" the daughters of men, and from personal experience of growing up living next door to a family that invited unclean spirits into their home, I know that they are active in our world. We could sit here and dissect every portion of the book and discuss it, but that would consume more time than its worth. One thing for sure is that it is an entertaining read, If you like Stephen King that is. Outside of this book I know nothing of the author, and it would be unfortunate if she has denied the medical attention needed for any patient due to her deeming them demon posessed. But thats not to disclaim her as being a false witness as an author.

I also read all of her books years ago. Read them and re-read them. I thought they were fascinating but after a few years I went back and read them and I noticed that some things just didn't fit in correctly. Can't recall exactly the specific things that made me realize that because it was, like I said, a long time ago (time lapses, stuff like that). I do know that it was enough for me to want to get rid of her books, of which I did. There is truth in a lot of what she writes but then there are things that just don't make any sense. A lot of over-dramatization for sure.

Yes, her claims are a little odd. Both she & her husband lead a group called Harvest Warriors. Her latest book is Standing On The Rock I think, but, I won't be rushing out to buy it.
The 'wedding' of Elaine to Satan was a bit bizarre. And, the crucifixion of the hitchhiker was terrible. Never once did Rebecca Brown question Elaine's testimony. She swallowed the whole lot a bit too easy. It was a bit farfetched...but then again...the more horrific, the more it may make movie material too! Maybe there was a method in her madness?
Also Daniel Yoder seems a bit far out in his claims as to how he was treated as a child.

http://www.pfo.org/curse-th.htm While I may not completely agree with every point of this article, it raises some interesting allegations. As this is not the Charismatic forum, I do not think that posting it is an attack. :)

I think we all just need to look at both sides of every issue. :)
