Anyone a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's work?? Even though there can be so much conterversy with his films, I enjoy so much the beautiful animation and wild adventures he takes you on. One of his newest creations is the magical movie Spirited Away... and probably my fav so far :D I like it so much that I had to go out and buy it yesterday lol, to say the least it really gets your imagination going!

 Yes! Miyazaki has an amazing talent ^_^

Spirited Away is the first one I saw (own a copy) and I think it's his most original, enchanting film to date.

Have you seen Howl's Moving Castle? I guess its release in the US has been limited but hopefully it will be out on video soon. This is my favorite Miyazaki film so far, based on a book I have not read by Diana Wynn Jones. Great soundtrack, too!

I enjoy the cute characters he comes up with, like the kodama in Princess Mononoke, and Totoro in My Neighbor Totoro ^_^

 Actually I have yet to see that movie... I wanted to see it in theaters but I found out about it too late. My friend and I are waiting for it to come out on video so we can watch it! :) I'm not even sure what its about lol, but from what I've heard its good! Hehe I love that movie... My Neighbor Totoro, and I agree with you about the characters. He's got such a talent and beautiful imagination!

I'd love to rant and rave about my favorite parts, but don't want to spoil it for you :) It'll be worth the wait!

I read book 1 of Nausicaa of the Valley Wind but haven't seen the movie yet.

Are there other artists out there similar to Miyazaki?

I like Miyazaki's work because of the depth to his characters :) Its a magical film, so much imagination, color, and creativity in it. Other films by him are Kiki's Delivery Service, Howls moving Catsle, My Neighbor Tortoro, and others. I thought Princess Mononoke was good, but so far my fav. is Spirited Away. How come your mom doesn't want you to see it?

Mum didn't want me to see spirited away as I have lots of terrible nightmares about demons and I heard that the filmhad demons in. She trys her best to protect me from things, but I'm much better now so I am hoping to bring her round :)

I thought nausicaa of the valley or whatever sounded good. Is it?

a humble group of people seeks peace from war and pollution, they settle in the place known as the valley of the wind... Naussicca is the princess there... she is determined to protect her people no matter what comes her way...

it's a must see!!!

Nausicaa sounds really good. I'm thinking of getting it sometime on manga. I heard it had giant bugs in though *shudders*

I fail to see how his work is controversial (okay, maybe a kids film where racoons have giant genitialia might raise a few eyebrows) - my favorite is still far and away Porco Rosso or "The Crimson Pig" which is followed by Kiki's Delivery Service. Also his 8 minute short music film video is quite good too, I used to have it as my screen saver.

Some people feel its misleading... due to the difference in culure and beliefs, may bring a child to believe in Spirits and whatnot *shrugs* lol. I haven't seen Porco Rosso just yet, but I'd like to :) Kiki's Delivery Service was deffinitly a good one. He made a music video?

Just saw Nausicaa of the Valley Wind! Amazing! Visually, I like the 'golden grain' background, and also, that spooky childhood song.
