What do you think about (secular) Haunted House funhouse attractions that take place around Halloween?

I've never been to one but I'm tempted to try one this year. The closest I've ever been was when I was a kid. It was a Halloween celebration at a nearby Catholic church. It was like a walk-through tunnel with people dressed up and acting scary. Amateur but very scary.

I dont think anything about them? They are scary attractions meant to entertain. I dont think much thought has to be put into that.

Yep, pretty much...

I never have, and probably never will, go to one.. It's not that I don't like being scared (although I don't love it either), I just don't see the draw.. Walk in a building with lots of faky dressed up people that jump out at you... No thanks..

I love such things! We actually have some pretty good ones around here that are targeted more towards a mature audience. What I mean by that is that some of them are just too scary for children.

I love them! I love being scared, since it takes a lot to scare me :D They used to have a Haunted Woods around here, unfortunately not doing it this year. It was scary to the extreme! It is so dark and spooky. In one part, a guy with a real chainsaw will just jump out from behind the trees and scare the daylights out of you! A few years ago, the guy scared Ma so bad she grabbed a hold of my hair and nearly pulled it out! :help:

I think they are usually harmless fun. I think it's just important that, whatever the medium, people keep fantasy and reality straight. Once that distinction is made, entertainment is not generally dangerous.

They're loads of fun! :D Some of them have really amazing effects...ghosts and whatnot. I've been in some really spectacular ones, and some cheesy ones. I don't see why they'd be harmful, unless you're a really nervous person.

Well, I for one feel like halloween has no busines in the celebration arsenal of any Christian. It is an evil holiday and is the number one holiday for satanists and other pagan religions. I think we should consider what Jesus would have us do first. Would you feel comfortable taking Him to one? If so, fine, but remember, you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Any reason other than what you think you know about where it originated from?

Wrong. You need to do some research instead of believing everything you read in a Chick Tract.

I think we should consider what Jesus would have us do first. Would you feel comfortable taking Him to one?
I think Jesus loved having a good time. I think Jesus was a fun-loving man, not some uptight holy roller that conservative Christians make him out to be. I doubt very seriously Jesus would be offended by people dressed up in sheets jumping out from behind corners startling patrons.

If so, fine, but remember, you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Yes, because I'm certain if Teenage Timmy went to a haunted house he would run right home and burn his Bible, convert to a devil worshiper, and sacrifice a baby. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, if you're so adamantly opposed to haunted houses, what do you think of Hell Houses, in which churches have youth walk through and watch re-enactments of 9-11, abortions, homosexuals burning in hell, and rituals in which "goth" looking teens kill a baby for a Satanic ritual?

I do not expect you in an un-enlightened, worldly state to understand at all so I see no point in discussing it with you. If there are some Christians who would like to discuss my views on this, as that would be sensible, I would be glad to do so. Thanks.

I would have no problem taking Jesus with me. I had never thought of that before.

If you think about it, His presence in the funhouse might actually have an effect on the performers, in their reaction to Him.
Here is a pretty good site without too much to sift through. If you are interested there is much information on this evil holiday and it's celebrations. As a Christian, you need to be informed of the facts before making your decision.

This statement reflects the problems I have with many Christians.

I am not trying to be rude. Do not interpret my post to be, but you come off as haughty and arrogant in your beliefs. This is the part of the forum where non-Christians are allowed to post. If you see no point in conversing with non-Christians might I suggest you stay in that part of the forum. As a non-Christian I consider myself a guest here, and I gladly abide by the rules and try my best to respect others beliefs, even though I may disagree with them. Get off your high horse.

Halloween's roots are in Christianity, not paganism or satanism. It is part of the celebration of All Saints Day, (though it's date did borrow from an existing pagan holiday). The roots of "trick or treat" come from Ireland, where treats were offered to avoid a particular night of mischief a few centuries back.

There is nothing inherently "evil" about halloween. Jesus would love Halloween. Remember, he made more wine at a wedding reception when they ran out. If he would supply the booze at a party, certainly he'd hand out candy to kids dressed up as Barney.
