Can you link to me some article that supports the bolded? I haven't heard of that before. I come from a white and quite wealthy environment with Liberal, arty parents who did in fact interact with people from many different backgrounds, so I was lucky in that sense. However, my college was predominantly white and yet I married a man who was not white. There are many, many mixed marriages of which I am personally aware, not to mention those I do not. Why are all of those people not more comfortable around those who look like them? What makes them different? I know African Americans married to Asians, Hispanics married to Asians, and other configurations that I shalln't list because I begin to question why I find the details necessary. So why does my brother in law marry a girl from Thailand? He wasn't brought up around Asians, and she isn't dark skinned like the girls he grew up with, nor does she have other African American attributes/features. These aren't isolated cases. I know a lot of people in interracial marriages, and I did try to find some stats, but sadly the only stats I could find were on very racist websites, which I won't link here. Regardless, it seemed to average out across those websites that approximately 10% of all American marriages are interracial. That's around 32 million people. That is a LOT of people who are not as comfortable around those who look like them.
