They just don't name demons like they used to huh?

A lot of people become scared about things 'corrupting' their children, or other people, and jump to conclusions without researching the facts. I am sure that Harry Potter and D&D are not for everyone, but many people of all ages who are Christian enjoy both, including myself.
As for the names of the Houses in Harry Potter, Slytherin seems to be named after the movement of a snake, Gryffindor seems to be named after a Gryffin, Ravenclaw after the claw of a Raven and Hufflepuff is probably used because it sounds cool. I am sure that if you looked hard enough, you could find a 'spell' which uses parts of snakes, gryffins, ravens and puff pastry, but that would be going a little silly

I can see how Harry Potter and D&D can affect some people, but there are many other things in our society (ie sports, tv, the Internet ) which also can corrupt people.
Each of these things can be used as a tool for Christ.

Yes it seems that too many people these days worry about what will corrupt kids, but I agree, Harry Potter is a lot of fun; good, wholesome fun.

As for D&D, I have never played it, and raised in a community where D&D stores, clans, etc. are generally frowned on (you can't even find a copy of the game or any of the books or minatures for it anymore in this community). But I feel RPG's in general are a lot of fun, and they are definatly one of my favorite genres. I particularly liked Fable on Xbox (had to go three towns over to buy a copy, video games are shunned here also).

I've never heard of D&D clans though.

OOH! Had a fun idea: if your town ever has a costum party, research the dress for a priest/priestess of Bacchus, they used crucifixes as religious symbols! ("Wow, you're dressed as a priest." "Yep, a priest of Bacchus.")

Abbadon is in the right region for where I live. I live in the slowest, most dull place on the planet. Lol. We have nothing here, lots of bingo halls, and some old people resturants.

It's sad really... that our society takes things to the extreme.

Is Harry Potter evil, mind-bending, propaganda that is poisoning our children? Of course not, it's a book series (and now sadly movies that let kids skip the reading part). Are there kids who will take it a little too far and jump off the roof with a broom or wear pointy hats and try to cast spells... of course, that's why parents are around, to try and curb that kind of extremism.

Is D&D evil, blah blah blah, poisoning our children? Again, no, its a game... one that I happen to believe inspires problem solving and develops a visual imagination (which helps when reading Tolkien). Can people take it too far, again yes... I would generally say that if it starts getting to the "dressing in character with full armament" is where a line needs to be drawn or at least intervention to make sure things don't get out of hand.

You get the point.... basically, everything in moderation and if parents are concerned then they need to talk to their kids about it. What a novel idea...

Besides, I grew up with a healthy obsession with Star Wars, played D&D and a few other RPGs, and in college read Lord of the Rings and more recently Harry Potter. I'm not crazy, in a cult, violent, or suffer from any other psychosis that some people think would result from such behavior.... at least that's what the voices keep telling me (just kidding)

Techjedi, I disagree, every year we have a Medievil (I know I misspelled it) Faire. I love to attend that, and dressing in full character is a fun part of it. I have a sword and everything for the occasion! It is going to far when they start to dress like that all the time, or talk in the old tongue all the time that it is going to far.

Dracon, your last post... I was totally unprepared for that... I am still wiping tears from my eyes...

There is nothing wrong with having a healthy imagination. Most people know the difference between reality and fantasy.

People that can't tell the diffrence shouldn't role play or read fantasy novels.

People that can tell the difference have nothing to fear from D&D, Harry Potter, and Barney the purple dinosaur.

The Harry Potter novels are actually very well written. If you're afraid that you'll convert to Paganism from reading a novel then you're a bit paranoid.

Book 6 will be released July 16 of this year. The series will only be 7 books long.

I'll be going to a midnight release thinger with friends to get it and will probably finish it in less than 24 hours. Until then...there is always fanfiction.
