“Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable, and in a second term, people like John Kelly would not be there to be the guardrails against his propensities and his actions. Those who once tried to stop him from pursuing his worst impulses would no longer be there and no longer be there to rein him in,” Harris said.

As if slandering Trump during her campaign rallies wasn't enough, now Harris is using her position as Vice President of the United States, making a speech behind the official seal of the Vice President, and with the Vice Presidential flag behind her to slander Trump with more accusations.
Is slandering a political opponent now considered to be an official act of the Vice President? Or is she just abusing her position?

She added: “It is clear from John Kelly’s words that Donald Trump is someone who, I quote, ‘certainly falls into the general definition of fascists’, who, in fact, vowed to be a dictator on day one and vowed to use the military as his personal militia to carry out his personal and political vendettas.”

If she's going to make these types of remarks about a political opponent, she should save it for the campaign trail, and not do it as an official act of her office.

Oh PErfect!!!!!

Slander?
I FULLY SUPPORT Trump taking her to court for such actions. In fact, it would be weak and ladylike if he did NOT do so. It's his stirling reputation and if it is slander, she should be charged.

If Trump wants to sue Harris for slander, he's gonna have a hard time making his case. Being a public figure, the bar for proving slander or libel is much higher than for a private citizen. Good luck, Donny!

Gee, if the President is immune from prosecution for official acts, I wonder if that standard would also apply to the Vice President. Someone should ask Clarence Thomas.

So now you're in favor of a Vice President using their position in office to attack a political opponent?

Funny....I don't remember saying that. Wait, let me check.

Nope, I did not say that.

If that's not what you said, you sure didn't make yourself very clear about what you meant to say. Care to try again?

Let's see if I can help you figure this out.

What I said:

If Trump wants to sue Harris for slander, he's gonna have a hard time making his case. Being a public figure, the bar for proving slander or libel is much higher than for a private citizen. Good luck, Donny!

Pretty straight forward, really. Slander applies differently for a public figure than for a private citizen. A public figure, like Trump, needs to prove, in court, that someone spoke with "actual malice" This means that the person making the statement knew it was false or made it with reckless disregard for the truth.

That'd be hard to prove, which is why I wished Donny good luck.

Clear? Okay, next...

What I said:

Gee, if the President is immune from prosecution for official acts, I wonder if that standard would also apply to the Vice President. Someone should ask Clarence Thomas.

I said this because I'm curious if the Supreme Court would consider official acts of the Vice President to be immune from criminal prosecution, like they do for official acts of the President. And since Clarence Thomas did agree with that ruling (and offered a concurring opinion on the matter), I suggested he be asked about it.

-- A2SG, hope he's not on vacation with Harlan Crow again....

The two do seem to be buddies, and Crow has gifted quite a few luxury trips courtesy of the billionaire, so it's not outside the realm of possibility to think that, if Thomas is unavailable, he might be on vacation with Harlan.

So...

What in all that made you think I said what you acted as if I said? Where, exactly, was I unclear?

-- A2SG, and don't worry....if need be, I can get a whole lot more pedantic if I wanted to....

I didn't act anything. I simply asked you a simple yes/no question, which could have been answered with a yes or no instead of all that.

I suppose I could have....had what you asked been close to what I actually wrote. But, since it wasn't, and was not implied by a single word I wrote....it seemed better to point that out instead.

Was I glib in doing so? Yeah, probably. I get like that sometimes.

I liked the first 11 minutes best :D

I found the rest to be a distorted theatrical smear campaign. Reminiscent of:

This photo made me laugh today, sort of.

We see all this talk everywhere about Trump's 'character' ... Harris is out there, pushing the message that Trump will be the next Hitler ... and yet, this ^ is what we got, when 'mild-mannered, gentlemanly, religious Uncle Joe in the basement' was elected.

They don't seem to understand the concept of pushing a narrative too hard and going overboard. Into the deep end. Looking really desperate.

So now you're in favor of a Vice President using their position in office to attack a political opponent?

As you well know, she's a candidate for POTUS.

According to your reasoning, Donald J Trump was using his position as President to slander Joe Biden in the 2020 campain.

Again, "yes" / "no" would be better, rather than taking the word-salad route.

Did he do it on the campaign trail, or did he do it while standing behind the official presidential seal and say his opponent was like Hitler--shortly after his opponent had been shot because of such rhetoric?

Why is this notable in Trump era American politics?

Because it's now the Biden/Harris era which was promised to be so much better.
Since Harris says nothing comes to mind when asked what she'd do differently, we should expect the same if she gets elected.

Thaaaaat's not how it works, silly! Once a social attitude has changed (in this case Mr Trump being crass, boorish and crude) it is now a thing EVERYONE feels comfortable to do. Mr Trump has left an indelible brown stain on American politics.

Perhaps a metaphorical black towel might be needed for him to sit on like when he was on Fox that time?

Interesting to hear that Biden (and now Harris) can't/couldn't do anything to rise above who/what they claim to hate so much. So it would seem that you're accepting that Harris has resigned herself and her party to being what they claim to despise.
No wonder many people will be sitting out this election.

Well, Trump has no room for complaint. Just recently, he said less substantiated names for her:

Just last week, Trump even called Harris a fascist. And he has used the word repeatedly to describe his political opponents in general.
“Kamala destroyed our border. She destroyed our economy,” Trump said last week at an Oct. 18 rally in Detroit, Michigan, before going on to claim Harris helped create the “defund the police” movement.
“Anybody that wants to defund the police even for one day we don’t want, we don’t want them. They’re not worthy of being the president of the United States,” Trump said. “If you have that ideology — and she does, she’s a Marxist, communist, fascist, anything you want.”
Two days earlier, Trump called his political opponents “the enemy from within” during a Fox News interview.
“They’re very dangerous. They’re Marxists and communists and fascists, and they’re sick,” he said.
Trump also referred to his opponents as fascists at a campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia, on Oct. 15.
“We will put our country first. We will put communists, Marxists and fascists last and they will always stay last,” he said.
