  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought I would share some of my Thanksgiving with you. And of course The Smiths rock. :) Here are the lyrics to go along with the song. It's very sweet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaHOx0EBLME

"Heifer whines could be human cries
Closer comes the screaming knife
This beautiful creature must die
This beautiful creature must die
A death for no reason
And death for no reason is murder

And the flesh you so fancifully fry
Is not succulent, tasty or kind
Its death for no reason
And death for no reason is murder

And the calf that you carve with a smile
Is murder
And the turkey you festively slice
Is murder
Do you know how animals die ?

Kitchen aromas arent very homely
Its not comforting, cheery or kind
Its sizzling blood and the unholy stench
Of murder

Its not natural, normal or kind
The flesh you so fancifully fry
The meat in your mouth
As you savour the flavour
Of murder

No, no, no, its murder
No, no, no, its murder
Oh ... and who hears when animals cry ? "

I take it you're a vegetarian then? Sabbath's bassist Geezer Butler is also passionate about animal rights.

Interesting slogan in your signature saying "save a turkey, don't eat one". I heard a good rebuffal of that type of thing years ago. It said, "for every cow you don't eat, I'm going to eat 2".

Excellent. I didn't know that.

I've heard that one as well and the disconnect is depressing.

Either way, The Smiths are so moving. There's not too much in the way of pro-animal compassion tunes out there.

Hi

I'll hazard my perspective, and please read kindly :)

As a fundamentalist Christian, of course I believe that
GOD created all/everything; and declared it "good"
Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you:

even as the green herb, have I given you all things." iow, simple & straight forward.
but all too soon,
people started strange manmade religions like "atheism"; & comfusion, compounded multiple ways, resulted.
-
Now, I do *support animal rights* For example,
Poachers, killing only to monetarily-benefit, from parts of an animal, are lawless criminals.
&
Recreational-hunters, for the same reason plus their ego, should not be doing that either.
&
Traders, who import millions of poor Flutterbys, etc; only to have most of them die in transit, are too lawless criminals.
&
Research-scientists, torturing billions of other animals
in often unnecessary experiments are too lawless criminals, especially for conditions we already have the ability to heal.
&
If you adopt an animal/pet from the Shelter, it should be fixed; so in the event you can no longer care for it,
there are not now 20+ ^_^ more of its kind facing abandonment, abuse or euthanasia.
&
Breeders, of food-animals, should not be cramming these poor animals. - They should free-range, & be fed well, and have their Immune-systems strenghtened; iow, be well cared for.
I think you get my point. ;)
-
Now then, as a medical-professional I made many astounding discoveries; in this context the fact that A+ blood types, stay healthier on more Vegetarian-diets, eggs, with maybe just some animal-gravy, & rarely some animal-proteins. -
otoh, it's also true that other blood-types can get physically sick, when they're prevented from eating at least 2ozs. of animal-proteins daily. So, that's another important consideration.
~
Then, there's also this: Human babies, some who the genocide atrocity of "abortion" actually survived; and others born premature, yet they managed to thrive... these so many atheists do NOT consider worthy of *life*...
while at the same time, they cry "murder!", of animals GOD said He created for our food.

Additionally, nigh every drug in large enuf doses, causes "euthanasia", or death; including many people who yet want to *live*...

I read your Title of "Happy Thanksgiving"; and in our family, this has always meant ThanksLiving  happily.
We've had homeless folks sharing our table's blessings, and no I would not condemn them with "oh, you terrible murderer!".
We showed them *love*, as GOD/Jesus showed us His way. And in this way, our every-day is "thanksgiving"

Yes, Geezer Butler is very passionate about animals, like yourself. Here is a link to on the Heaven and Hell website (which is what Black Sabbath are called by now-named after the first album that the current singer did with Sabbath in 1981).

Haha, maybe this will turn you into a Sabbath fan. :p

http://www.heavenandhelllive.com/index.cfm/pk/view/cd/NAA/cdid/401493/pid/400079

Here is what Geezer says on this webpage link. I have copied and pasted it as the letters are really small, and it's not that easy to read, as the letters are on a crumpled page background-it looks good but it's hard to read!!

Hello readers,

Thank you all who came to see the Metal Masters tour. It was a pleasure touring with such great bands and friends - Judas Priest, Motorhead, and Testament, and their respective crews. It was great meeting everyone who came to the meet and greets after the shows.

Now back to reality. As you may know from my web-site and lyrics, I am pro all life, not just unborn fetuses. I don't understand people who say they are pro-life, but then support unnecessary wars and the disgusting slaughter of animals for sport. I respect people's freedom of religion, but i absolutely abhor hypocrites. Which brings me to this horrific video of cowardly bastards in airplanes, shooting wolves for so called "sport", and the hypocritical politician [she's supposed to be pro-life, remember], who allows this cowardly act to take place in her state. I know lots of people who hunt, and I enjoy shooting at my local gun range, but I don't know, nor would i want to know, anyone who gets pleasure from this disgraceful behaviour. God/Nature has created a beautiful earth, and populated it with beautiful creatures, and i believe that all life is miraculous. Why do politicians [royals included] enjoy killing so much, and treating those miracles with such contempt

Love and peace,

Geezer.

On another note, Geezer Butler was a nominee for the, get this, "Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2008". I kid you not. Here's the full story if you're interested.

Love and peace,
Geezer.
Yes, I agree - it would serve us well to live *pro-life*. And like I said, "recreational, for sport" :( hunters, should not be doing that.
Yet
neighbors, with 3-freezers each to share with us who don't hunt, will hunt for "food"; and
have learned how not, to make any animal suffer - Winter's starvation, or from their barrel.

But murdering a baby, or another human, over hours of torturous "treatments", also is NOT *prolife*.

I don't know what other religions have to do with this thread. I don't really know what your religion has to do with the thread. Of course I know that religion is used as justification but that really isn't the intent of posting the song, rather just to remind you of suffering and violent gluttony.

Factory farming is how most people get there meat, which is why I felt the questions noted in The Smiths song to be fitting for the holiday.

Is this what your god had in mind though?

True but that's not a matter of animal rights, but animal welfare.

Recreational
-hunters, for the same reason plus their ego, should not be doing that either.
Yes, recreational killing/violence is warped.

, who import millions of poor Flutterbys, etc; only to have most of them die in transit, are too lawless criminals.
I'm not familiar with this. I'll google it.

Research-scientists, torturing billions of other animals
in often unnecessary experiments are too lawless criminals, especially for conditions we already have the ability to heal.
Indeed, and with globalization, efforts made by communites is western nations to regulate animal exploitation are being thwarted.

If you adopt an animal/pet from the Shelter, it should be fixed; so in the event you can no longer care for it,
there are not now 20+ more of its kind facing abandonment, abuse or euthanasia.
Agreed.

, of food-animals, should not be cramming these poor animals. - They should free-range, & be fed well, and have their Immune-systems strenghtened; iow, be well cared for.
I think you get my point.
Yes, and that's the driving point of the song. "Do you know how animals die?" and "a death for no reason is murder" couldn't make it any clearer.

Now then, as a medical-professional I made many astounding discoveries; in this context the fact that A+ blood types, stay healthier on more Vegetarian-diets, eggs, with maybe just some animal-gravy, & rarely some animal-proteins.
I'm sure we could have a lengthy conversation about blood type diets, which I will argue against. I have never seen any kind of evidence supports such claims. What kind of medical professional are you?

Then, there's also this: Human babies, some who the genocide atrocity of "abortion" actually survived; and others born premature, yet they managed to thrive... these so many atheists do NOT consider worthy of *life*...
I've never run across anybody, let alone atheists, that feel premature births and abortion survivors aren't worthy of life. Though I'm not really interested in turning this thread into an abortion thread. We have more than enough of them that discuss the issue.

I read your Title of "Happy Thanksgiving"; and in our family, this has always meant ThanksLiving happily.

It may have been a happy thanksgiving for you and yours, that is not the case for the millions of birds that sacrificed their lives for your celebration.
They, at the very least, deserve your thanks. You can skirt the responsibility, justify, shift the message, etc. That will not change the reality that these animals have suffered and will continue to suffer until enough humans embrace compassion to make change.

Yea, Happy Thanksgiving!

The Smiths are without a doubt the greatest band of all time. Sadly, I've not been able to listen to this song for quite a few months since I gave up being vegetarian. :sorry: I've been thinking about trying again, and listening to this song has made up my mind. Damn you Braunwyn...and less than a month to go before Christmas!

On the plus side I can wear my t-shirt with the Meat is Murder album cover on it again without having to say "it's an album cover, not a political statement!" every time someone points it out to try to vindicate my hypocrisy. :p

If that is the case than wow. I couldn't be happier for you. Without a doubt your path back towards compassion will be the best christmas present this holiday season.

eta: and thanks blacksabb for the video.

:bigeye:Weird, by the way animals have no souls. Like you do however; if we are going to eat meat its best to do it as human as possible.
