  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Happy Passover!

Hope that comment was tongue in cheek John - since that video has been making the rounds for a couple of years now at Jewish sites. :)

It is what it is.

I was just turning the gasping yente routine back on one who has over played that card with me.

Please support this and future animations by taking the time to get a copy of Schlepping Through the Alps — the Hadassah Magazine #1 Nonfiction Bestseller .....

Schlepping Through the Alps: My Search for Austria's Jewish Past with Its Last Wandering Shepherd
Sam Apple
Biography

SAM APPLE, who grew up in Houston, is a graduate of the creative nonfiction MFA program at Columbia University. Apple’s writing has appeared in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Forward, and The Jerusalem Report as well as on Salon. He currently lives in Brooklyn and is a contributing book editor at Nerve.

Who let the Jews out?

To the music of who let the DOGS out?

Tsk tsk, Lulav... I would have thought you of all people would have known how offensive this would be and so close to Seder even...
I found it funny. Not offensive. Maybe you don't see it because you aren't Jewish, I don't know, but it was not made to be an offense, it is an advertising help for a book out about anti semitism and Jews in Austria written by Sam Apple who also wrote the cartoon to help advertise it. Notice the sheep in there? because the book is about a Yiddish shepherd. ;)

What they're saying about Scheppling through the Alps

Washington Post---The liveliest, most unusual travel tale in recent memory."

The Jerusalem Post--"A quirky and entertaining debut book that seamlessly blends travelogue with memoir and humor with sadness."
What's it about?

Hans Breuer, Austria's only wandering shepherd, is also a Yiddish folksinger. He walks the Alps, shepherd's stick in hand, singing lullabies to his 625 sheep. Sometimes he even gives concerts in historically anti-Semitic towns, showing slides of the flock as he belts out Yiddish ditties. Born in 1954, Breuer spent his childhood in Vienna fighting the lingering Nazism in Austrian society. His performances are an attempt to educate his fellow citizens on the people their parents and grandparents had helped to wipe out of Europe.
When New York-based writer, Sam Apple, hears about this off-the-wall eccentric, he flies overseas and signs on as a shepherd's apprentice. Demonstrating no immediate natural talent for shepherding, Apple does his best to earn the respect of Breuer's sheep, while keeping a safe distance from the fierce herding dogs.
As this strange and hilarious adventure unfolds, Apple is determined to find out why Breuer has chosen to become a folk-singing shepherd and to see if there are really as many anti-Semites in Austria as he fears. What Apple discovers turns out to be far more fascinating and moving than he had imagined.
With this odd and wonderful book, Sam Apple joins the august tradition of Tony Horwitz and Bill Bryson.

Here you can get a copy of Hans Breuer's Yiddish CD
http://www.samapple.com/hansbreuer.htm
( You can also then see him and some of his many sheep and his sheep dog. ) :)

Maybe you better do you homework next time you want to berate someone,eh?

Don't you think you have been unusually easily offended when it has come to the harmless posts I've posted? Or that you have sided with those who were? And haven't you before said "I don't want to have to report this.... but..." ? now in PMs these days...

When I have always deleted posts at the first sign of offense even if there was really nothing offensive I always did... meaning I gave you no reason to continue to threaten to report me...

Now I am convinced that this is how you attempt to control those who annoy you (as I guess I do no matter what I try to please). Fine. Well, two can play the thin skinned individual as I have shown with the who let the dogs out reply.

Don't like being treated that way? Just a dose of your own medicine.

John, I don't know where this is coming from, nor why you seem to be so upset, I never threatened you, and If you felt that way, I apologize as it was not my intention. But from these words and words in just about every other thread I posted in yesterday it seems you are holding something against me and won't handle it in pm as we are asked to do, so I guess it must be done here. What I wrote to you about was not about offending me, I am sorry you couldn't see that, I was just looking out for others, as I have in the past. What you did here in my thread was to detract from a cute greeting and a worthwhile read to make it a personal vendetta against me and accuse me of posting inflamatory things against my own people, that is a pretty serious accusation. And as far as calling you Christian , I didn't realize it was such an offense to you, what I was thinking when writing this was that the 'act' was un Christ-like and from that thought I went to Christian. That is what we are really, just doctrinally different from Mainstream Christianity, and as the term I was thinking of was not related to Buddah, I used the Word Christian, it certainly was not made to insult you, not in any way.

I will have to state that if I have written to you about an offensive posts it wasn't 'harmless', we all can't see sometimes what our words may convey or pictures for that matter, and others do. I would think it is healthy and loving to welcome confirmation that what we do or don't do is good for the other, this I believe is loving your neighbor.

I'm sorry you think about me the way you do. You have in fact made many an embarrassing post naming me and I just let it go, I haven't done a thing, but never said you annoy me, nor have tried to control you. In the beginning when I saw you here I thought we could work together on some common goals but I see that this barrier is too high to hope for that any longer.

I wish you to have a Have a lovely Passover.

John, I don't know where this is coming from, nor why you seem to be so upset, I never threatened you, and If you felt that way, I apologize as it was not my intention.

Thank you. Just fyi the words "I don't want to report this" just came across as threatening to make a report. Sorry I jumped to that conclusion. I was certain by now you knew I only need to be told or reminded something was offensive and I have always pulled the post.

But from these words and words in just about every other thread I posted in yesterday it seems you are holding something against me and won't handle it in pm as we are asked to do, so I guess it must be done here.

I was really feeling like this was a frequent occurrence between us... I'd post, you'd tell me it was offensive, others (including mods) would tell me it wasn't offensive, but I'd remove it anyway. I felt it was a form of control, snuffing out what I had to say feigning offense... That was how I felt, anyway... and where I was coming from. And I had just about had enough.

The thing is, Lulav, I care. And I earnestly felt that was being used against me no matter how I tried to mend any fences between us... we got off on the wrong foot, or I just irked you somehow. And I guess it all kind of blew up at the same time, and I am sorry I "lost it."

What I wrote to you about was not about offending me, I am sorry you couldn't see that, I was just looking out for others, as I have in the past.

That is to be commended, but at the time I thought it was being a bit petty... almost like one who jumps at the chance to denounce another... again, I am just conveying how it felt at the time. But your attitude in this quoted post sheds new light on it all and now I feel I was quite rash in my reaction.

Again, I am sorry.

What you did here in my thread was to detract from a cute greeting and a worthwhile read to make it a personal vendetta against me and accuse me of posting inflammatory things against my own people, that is a pretty serious accusation.

Once again, as I said in the post that followed I was trying to give you what I perceived was a dose of the medicine you were giving me. It feels like someone or something ever nipping at your heels. Not a good feeling.

And as far as calling you Christian , I didn't realize it was such an offense to you, what I was thinking when writing this was that the 'act' was un Christ-like and from that thought I went to Christian. That is what we are really, just doctrinally different from Mainstream Christianity, and as the term I was thinking of was not related to Buddha, I used the Word Christian, it certainly was not made to insult you, not in any way.

Christian is not a sleight word... unless it is used to imply non-Messianic, which is how I received it since we have had our differences in the past about Spirit Israel / the Jewishness of the faith etc.

I accept your explanation and your intentions as other than how I perceived them at the time.

Ok. It just seemed to be frequent, or more actually like there was little input from you unless it was your being this kind of "loving neighbor to me."

I mean we don't have to go out of our way to be kind or supportive, but if we are too frequently critical it comes across as ... well it just seemed at the time to me that just about all you had to say to me was critical (and I am sure I was wrong about that).

I'm sorry you think about me the way you do. You have in fact made many an embarrassing post naming me and I just let it go, I haven't done a thing, but never said you annoy me, nor have tried to control you.

First of all I want to say I actually care about you and the rest of the posters here. Since this reply is under the white flag of truce and the general candor of your post is also under the flag of truce I will only highlight what might have otherwise been received as a dig within an offering of peace.

If my post comes across that way as well, please understand that was how I felt at the time. It's not a good excuse but it's what happened. And I do apologize to you and all who had to witness this. And I hope it in no way puts a dampener on this glorious Holiday Season!!!!!

I wish you to have a Have a lovely Passover.

And I you!!!!!

Perhaps, given time and now that we see more of what each other's temperament is really about, this can be accomplished after all.

In Messiah's love, your brother... John

1Cor 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

8: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Ex 12:1: And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2: This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3: Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

7: And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
8: And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9: Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
10: And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11: And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.
12: For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13: And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
14: And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Jn 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

happy passover!!!

You know ozell before I even came in here to read what john wrote ( I was waiting and bracing myself and meanwhile these very words came to mind) I was thinking of those exact verses! Thanks for posting them.

And John I accept your apology and thank you for being as Yeshua, I was just reading to someone, meek and lowly, I love seeing his spirit in others, even online!

Misunderstandings come, as it is hard to see each other here as a full person, only their words. I have been trying to warn others that my thoughts may not be posting as I want them to, as My CD is giving me trouble lately and I have been having trboule expressing myself, truly my intent is never to harm, even though it may seem so at times and like any animal that is abused once to much, may bite, I can fall into that as well.

I am glad we cleared this up, and there were no digs just stating the facts, I think sometimes people but expressions or emphasis on words that weren't meant to be there, I mean look at how translations of the bible can be so different!

Anyway I pray that you have an easy time getting rid of your chometz, I sure am having some difficulty in my house, prayers are always welcome!

thanks! :)
