June 19th is a holiday in Texas - a ship arrived in Galveston 2 years after Emancipation Proclamation was signed, a Union General officially declaring slaves free, war over.

I have known of it all my life, but I am from Texas.
I wonder if the rest of the nation knows of Juneteenth.

Most USA states celebrate Juneteenth. Some have work holidays . some have the kids out of school . Some have commemorative ceremonies.
