It's my daughter's birthday today. She's 12. I can't believe how fast the years have flown. She's the only girl among 5 boys, so she is a precious gem!
Each milestone in our house is laced with sadness. Her dad died of cancer nearly 6 years ago. We have a very precious picture of the 2 of them, walking down the hospital corridor on her 6th birthday. He died 6 weeks later.
After she was born, when my husband left the hospital, he got into our car and turned on the radio. "With Arms Wide Open" by Creed was playing. He listened to the words and decided that it was the perfect song for them, and their new relationship. I posted that song to her facebook wall today. It made me cry.
She was always daddy's girl. She was so close to him. Today she asked if we could walk that same corridor at the hospital that we walked 6 years ago. We did. It was a precious moment.
She now has a new daddy. She refuses to call him Dad because she doesn't want to be disloyal to her dad in heaven. But she is so close to him... definitely "daddy's girl" and it blesses his heart. Mine too.
