  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone,

The thought occured to me recently - All Hallow's Eve, 2017 AD. This will be the 500th year anniversary of Luther's infamous posting of the 95 theses.

I can only imagine that some gross amount of bigotry will emerge. We should all pray that this doesn't happen and that a more ecumenical dialogue will be opened up between our seperated brothers and sisters. I know it's a long way off, but years will go by and it'll be here. Pray for N. Ireland especially. It's ironic that all the thousands of denominations will get together to celebrate the so-called "Reformation" of the Church.

Prayers prayers prayers. May God guide the Church Militant...

I don't think there is anything to worry about since most protestants don't know anything about the 95 theses, the date they were posted or what they meant and they don't care. It's a non-problem.

But I am very interested in the idea of the world ending December 23, 2012.

Isn't that when the Mayan calendar runs out?

I just did a google search on December 23, 2012 ... quite interesting.
Yes, that coincides with the last day of the Mayan calendar

Gotta ask ... Since when were the Mayans infallible?

How does a calendar just..end?

The Mayan calendar is an extremely complex cycle. There are multiple "gears" that rotate inside each other. With this calendar they have been able to rpedict modern eclipse times with an error margin of about 30 seconds. The gears stop on December 23rd, 2012.

Now of course I don't actually believe that but..

The calendar doesn't actually end, but starts over. It started at 0.0.0.0.0, with the right-most number being a day, and the other numbers being longer periods. When there's enough days to form a longer period, it gets bumped up by 1, and the days start over again, just like a clock with hours, minutes, and seconds. On December 21, 2012 (or perhaps 23 - they're not quite sure when it started), the whole thing rolls over to zeroes again. The Mayans believed time ran in cycles, and that each cycle would signal the end of time and the beginning of a new creation. The current cycle began in 3114 BC.

I think we'll be around for quite a bit longer, but with the way we're going, I wouldn't be surprised if God decided to end things early. Especially if we have President Hillary. We'll see. :)
