Hacking is never a good idea. Besides it's a really good way to crash your computer.. Trust me, I know. My bro used to hack stuff for games and my computer nearly crashed. So we never hack anymore.

Really, most hackers just hack to challenge themselves. I don't see a problem with any sort of hacking as long as you don't harm anyone or anything.

Hacking is OK if it is constructive, which if you are taking Hacking by its definition, it is.

Cracking on the other hand is wrong.

Nothing wrong with Hacking. Perhaps it's the fact that people don't know what hacking is, that makes it seem "wrong" to most people. Well, that and hollywood's protrayal of hackers as destructive and counter-cultural anarchist. I think it's that people are just scared because they don't understand. And people don't like the idea that others can see their "stuff".

But think of it like this...if you have a house, you put up blinds or curtains, right? In the same way people can put up firewalls and such if they don't want people looking in (and should).

People shouldn't get mad if people are walking by in the cyber-world and look in thier window. It's simple curiousity...put up some mini-blinds.

On the other hand, there are people that don't just look. But I think that those issues are universal to our society and don't take much thought other than common sense.

Thou shall not steal (or destory other property). Simple.

If you're hacking your own stuff, I would think that was ok. To me, the line would be drawn if you were to attempt to gain unauthorized access to someone else's data.

If it's none of your business, keep your little nose out of it.

Unless you have been viciously hacked by someone that has had a bad day, or disagrees with you on a subject, it's NOT FUN. I was BRUTALLY harassed and attacked by a hacker a little over a year ago, and that person is still around making my life miserable.

They need to grow up and get a life. It's totally immature and very irresponsible.
