Yep, that would amuse me greatly. At least that father would be trying to do his duty. Too many "fathers" are indifferent or allow themselves to become powerless.

First thing I'd tell anyone who dates my daughter is that if he tries anything he should not have, he should prepare himself to be hung by his toes.

I agree, and I think it goes for parents and kids of both genders. While I'm not an advocate of micromanaging one's children's lives, I do think that particularly during the teenage years, more parental involvement would be a good thing. Not that at the age of 32 I'm going to ask my dad's permission to go to the movies with a guy... but I know far too many teenagers whose parents don't pay any attention to who their kids date, and then get all surprised at things like unplanned pregnancies.

When I was a teenager (back before Al Gore invented the internet), one gal told me I had to ask her dad if I could date her. I finally got the nerve to do it (the guy was really large and intimidating) and he asked me a few questions and later we ended up going out once (she didn't really like me all that much).

I wondered later if that was truly a family rule or if she was just trying to discourage me from pursuing her.
