  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of the problems I have with the majority of the Gundam franchise is the fact that it's basically the same story told over and over again. Each version has the "Char" type character, etc.

Not to forget that Bandai's only goal with Gundam is to sell toys. They pull a lot of really good directors and animators off of smaller projects to feed the Gundam behemoth, causing delays in other animes and some to be cancelled outright.

Cartoons that sell toys = suck, for the mostpart.

I only liked the universal century series since they were the only ones that I felt were actually plausible (in their explanations for the existence of mobile suits and such). Plus no one has ever approached the villainity of Char.

I especially didn't like Gundam Wing because of its insistence in shoving pro-peace sentiments down your throat (the universal century series argue against war too... but in a much more subtle way (most of the time)), and the way it completely ignored physics. (This two ton (way too light, by the way) completely unaerodynamic machine can fly through the air with agility because of a few rockets! Sure. I'll stick to the universal century, thank you very much.)

try gundam seed Susan, it's way better in music and animation. i guess we can't really compare the plot though.

Char Aznable is a villain from the original series and perpetual nemesis of Amuro, the stories hero.

As for Gundam Wing not needing to ignore physics, normally I don't have a problem with it, except that the original series (and almost more so in other Universal Century series) was unusually committed to realism for a show about giant robots. So when Gundam Wing uses the name and ignores reality, it bugs me a bit.

lol, ok moonlessnight, point taken.

gundam seed is the newest gundam series, and it's not related to GW, but it's very good in plot, animation and especially the music. Check out here:

I enjoyed Gundam Wing. In fact, enjoyed it too much because it became an obsession. I didn't pay attention to the plot or the message it was sending 13- and 14-year-old's like me. I'd tell my parents I liked it because of the art style, but that was the only "good" reason I could give. I'd obsess over the characters and the "story-line." I'd write fanfiction, draw fanart, collect images on the Internet, and let myself think nothing but things like, "Gundam Wing makes me happy." along with various other lies. It was the very first anime I was interested in, and that's all the value it has for me today. It also serves as a reminder of how low I fell and how far away from God I really was - it was the beginning of a terrible downfall. I'm sorry to say that that was the role Gundam Wing played in my life.

Oh definitely. :) It's just at that time, I had no idea how to do that, I didn't know what I truely believed in. Not to mention, I was young, naive, and ignorant. ;)

Meh, I never did finish any of the fanfic I wrote either. Lots of plot bunnies though.

Yeah. . .I really don't think we need to discuss *ahem,* you know. . .that kind of thing here. ;)

There's a debate on *ahem,* that subject that's gone on since June at otakuboards. . .my point being, that is a great topic for an argument since there are people who like it, people who hate it, and everything in between. Debating it only leads to fights and strife. :)
