  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, I was at work last night and (I stock groceries overnight). A pallet fell over in the truck that had pulled in. I asked one of our managers where he needed me and he made a snide comment to me. "No, You don't need to be back here. It's too hard for you Because you are a girl". . . I got so mad.

So, is it natural for men to automatically think that women are weak or inferior to them just because we don't have "a pair" as some would say? Oh I'm so mad. . .

Why am I different from any of the men that cleaned up that truck? I told him that just because I "was a woman didn't mean that I couldn't do the job just the same if not better than half the men on his team."

So he says "well then. . . Show me."

AND I DID!!! In fact, I was faster at restocking the pallets than the guys were. . . .

I asked him if anyone had ever called him Sexist. and he told me "no". I told him that he was acting like he was and he just grinned at me.

I hate it when women are at work or in other places and Men assume that she can't do something. . . Unless I specifically ask you for your help in my job. . . DON'T ASSUME I CAN'T DO IT. UGH!!!!

There are people with mental issues.

You could sue him, but rather, giving some kind of warning to him and brushing him off would be a better choice. I'm pretty sure that there's some kind of company policy that could get him fired for making that comment and having that type of attitude.

I would say that you handled your situation well.

If something worse happens, bring some reinforcements to handle the situation.

That guy's just compensating for his lack of intelligence or whatever he lacks. Pity the poor guy and throw in some prayers for him. You'll be heaping coal on his head.

Besides, he'll probably be working there for the rest of his life, so he'll have to make himself feel good about his lack of skills, social skills, and talents. You're way better than that, and you don't need some silly old guy make you feel horrible. As I've said before, if it gets worse, bring in some reinforcements from the higher ups or write complain letters.

8462: don't know your supervisors age, but some men are just victims of cultural bias with which they were raised, no need getting angry about it-just show em. It all pays the same. You made your point and I'd say you won.

Maybe he was just joking. Having worked with guys in the backroom and stuff, they do like to razz alot. I use to get busted on all the time because i was skinny. Its not fun, but it just seems to be part of the culture overnight. But to be honest with ya,id rather have physically weaker women work for me (who do the job) than to have big strong men (who are lazy).

If your manager is a jerk. Then know that jerks arnt just jerks to women along they are jerks to all. BTW you can report him for such comments.

i quit the job. I fell and "sprained" my hip as the dr said. When I called in because the dr put me out of work for 2 weeks the assistant manager of the store told me that "we don't take Dr's notes!" So I told her she could take the job and shove it! I handed her my name badge and walked out. I am not in any way ever!!!! like that with work and I usually take my job extremely serious but this one had pushed me WAYYYY too far. The managers were complete crap and the overnight people (save for 2 of them) didn't know what they were doing. Then they blamed the lower people for everything. I'm just glad that I get to stay home with my babies now.

Perhaps you should have waited and checked to see what the law says about this. They could have known from your prior exchange with the sexist manager that you're quick tempered if the right buttons are pushed.

So when you got injured they presumed saying, we don't take Doctors notes, would have been just the thing to get you to quit! When, depending on where you live and the laws governing employers in your State, you could have had gotten back into the job.
Now, this "shove it" comment followed by your voluntary resignation could follow you on your employment record when you try to get another job.
But at least you're at home with your babies. But the question is, can you afford not to have that income so as to take care of them?

Think before you speak! In a job it makes all the difference.

I am fine as far as income goes. My DH is working again since he isn't in school and I am happy just staying home with my kids.
If it follows me with my next job then it would be the first one. I've got plenty of good recommendations from my previous 2 employers which whom both said. "we will hire you back in an instant. All you need do is apply", So I'm not worried about a job. I'm just glad I don't work for the hateful people that treated me like dirt anymore.

I have found it's pretty normal. My husband and I own a ranch. We work HARD. Last year I did all the calving because he was injured. ALL of it. Most of the calves I lifted weighed nearly as much as I. Whether it's running equipment, milking a cow, trimming horse feet, vaccinating, castrating, deworming, whatever...I do it. Most of the places I go to pick up parts or feed have guys that ask if I need help. If I don't (which is typically the case) I smile and say "No Thanks! Ranch wife". Usually they get it. Even the sub pastor we have said he needed to lift some boards because it was man's job. I smiled and said, "Around here, ranch wives DO men's jobs. Thanks but I got it". He got the point. lol You did well.
