  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love posting a thread title like that in here - it's like Pavlov's dog - I bet you're all salivating and couldn't get in here fast enough!

Anyway - a most fantastic kids bible I got yesterday.

The Big Picture Story Bible by David Helm

It actually does an unfolding story for kids - so for once the OT isn't presented as a series of unrelated stories, but instead as a series of God's revelation of his promises and how he answers them. In the NT part it talks of how Jesus explained the OT to the disciples and showed them it was all about him.

I love it - it is a fantastic kids resource.

On a similar theme, but for the adults, 2 more books on biblical theology

God's Big Picture: Tracing the Story-Line of the Bible by Vaughan Roberts

This is a very accessible book to help understand biblical theology. I find it hard to explain what I mean by the term - but it underpins pretty much all sydney anglican bible teaching. It is a major part of the curriculum at Moore Theological College. I love biblical theology - it is similar to covenant theology but moreso is about as close as I can get to explaining it.

According to Plan: The Unfolding Revelation of God in the Bible by Graeme Goldsworthy

This is a truly fantastic book - it is a bit heavier going than the previous one, but I don't doubt anyone on this forums ability to handle it - it's not that heavy. It, along with a conference and a course on biblical theology, changed and formed the way I understand the bible.

I really really really would love it if people gave this book a go - it is just so good. Graeme Goldsworthy was a lecturer at Moore up until a few years ago and has written quite a few books on biblical theology and using biblical theology. Please just read the review of this one even.

I know I am pretty new to the whole reformed thing in some ways - well at least to understanding all the doctrine you all know so well. I just want to share with you what has been the foundation of my theology and doctrine, just as you have all shared yours with me.

What do you think of it - do you love it as much as I do?

I am sure you are more than capable of managing all of them - they are all pretty accessible really.

Yes, I really like it, but found it a little late. My girls are getting too old for it. We read it a couple times through anyway.:) I love the way it lays out the big picture, just as it claims.
