Chapter 1 - "Red Eye"
Hiro Kaizuka, at seventeen years of age, was a grade A student in Japan's schools. Because of his father's job, he travelled constantly. He never made any friends because he really didn't care about anyone. He only wanted to focus on one thing: study.
But one day at about two-thirty in the morning, Hiro decided it would be a good time to stop studying. He stepped out of his room and into the kitchen/dining room/living room and grabbed a bottled water. Then as he turned to go back to his room, he noticed something odd. His father's door was wide open, and his father wans't there.
"Maybe he's working late," Hiro said to himself. He went to bed without giving it a second thought.
A few hours later, before the sun had even risen to view, there was a knock at his door. Hiro turned over to look at the clock and groaned. "Who is this, bothering me this early in the morning. I've got a test in the morning, for God's sake..."
Hiro jumped up and opened the door. A policeman was there at the door. Needless to say, he was surprised by this. It certainly didn't help that he had a phobia for cops. Hiro just stared wide-eyes at the man.
"I'm sorry to bother you this early in the morning," he said. "Are you Hiro Kaizuka?"
Hiro managed a nod.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, son," the policeman said. "Your father was killed last night. We believe someone put a bomb in his car. We don't know who."
Hiro's began to shake violently. "Dead? Why? Why would anyone--"
Hiro fainted midthought. When Hiro woke up, he began to wonder what would happen to him. "Is anyone in my family still alive? If not, how will I support myself in school? Will I need to get a job?" But then the phone rang. Hiro reluctantly answered the phone.
"Hello, Hiro Kaizuka?" the voice said. "I just heard the aweful news. I'm so sorry about your father."
"Who is this?"
"I'm your grandfather, Ayumu Kaizuka."
"Grandfather? I didn't know I had a grandfather."
"Your father never mentioned me? Well, I suppose since I've lived in America for so long, he just forgot about me. But I'm so glad to finally talk to you, my boy. Listen, I know this will be hard for you, but I want you to come and live with me here in America. That is... If someone else hasn't volunteered to take you in already."
"No. There is no one else."
Without hesitation, Hiro packed his bags and took a plane to America. But still, there was something very suspicious about this Ayumu person. Sure, he may have lived in America while he was in Japan, but why hadn't he ever called? Why didn't he ever send mail? Hiro did his research, and Ayumu was his grandfather alright, but there was definitely something he wasn't telling him."
Chapter 1.2 - "Red Eye"
Well, the plane ride was about at pleasurable as possible. Ayumu had paid for Hiro's flight to be first class. But he couldn't really enjoy himself too much. It wasn't much in his nature to take things easy.
When he arrived in America, there was a chauffeur there waiting to take him to his grandfather. When he arrived at the gates of the mansion, he was surprised by the size of the place.
"Is this the place?" Hiro asked excitedly. "Wow... This guy must be loaded. I wonder why my dad never talked to this guy."
Ayumu was at the front door to greet him. He was a big man, not weak from age, though he was obviously old. His hair was still dark, and he didn't slump or have any visible liverspots. He seemed very fit for a grandfather.
"Hiro, my boy!" Ayumu said with his arms stretched to offer Hiro a firm hug. Hiro didn't move or say a word; he just stood still as his grandfather wrapped his arms around him and nearly sufficated him. "It's so good to finally meet you. Come in, come in! Make yourself comfortable!"
Hiro took at seat on a nearby couch, which was very comfortable. An Eglishman walked in then offered to get Hiro a drink.
"This is George Oxford," said Ayumu. "He's our servant."
"I'd like a Coke," Hiro replied.
"You like to read, Hiro?" Ayumu asked.
"Yeah." Hiro wouldn't say so, but pretty much all he ever does is read.
Ayumu signaled him to follow, so he did. Ayumu lead him to a huge room, two stories tall, full of nothing but books, tables, and lamps. There were two spiral staircases from the first floor to the second. Hiro eyed the library covetously. He was going to spend a lot of time in there.
The next couple of days, Hiro ate better than he ever had, slept in the most comfortable bed, and was free to do whatever he wanted, even drive his grandfather's many sports cars. But he couldn't shake off this feeling of emptyness that's been plagueing him. He began to feel despressed. And all the love and affection his grandfather offered him never helped anything.
At the private school he was attending then, he learned more, but nothing was different. Once again, he had no friends. Hiro didn't talk to anyone, and no one talked to him.
One day, the feeling took over. He stood on the top of the school. It was as if someone else had taken over and he was just watching. He looked down from the edge and just jumped off.
((Thought this would be a good place to take a break. Hopefully the suspense will bring people back.
