  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Back from my vacation today.

For the limited time I had for study while away I did read quickly (and now going through very very slowly) "Grace, The Glorious Theme"
by Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer.

A short book review is in order. I had heard of this volume from very many sources ... but my search for a copy which was reasonably priced took over a year. Most of the sellers on the various Internet sites wanted $60 or more ... one wanted over $200 for this 1922 limited print book. I found one for 8 bucks just before my vacation and picked it up.

If you can find it ... it is a very interesting read. Very thought provoking (and for me that is saying something as there ain't much I haven't heard of before).

I agree with the below reviewer that the “Seven Fundamental Facts About Grace” which is worth the whole cost of the book by itself ... what ever you end up paying.

Here is a mini-review I found by Dennis Rokser.

Since its initial publishing in 1922, this tremendous book has been a rich blessing to many as its subject matter is of the utmost importance and encouragement for believers in Christ in this present dispensation. I am thankful Kregel has continued to publish and distribute this classic volume, which is dedicated to C.I Scofield and originally published by Zondervan. Chapter one addresses “Seven Fundamental Facts About Grace” which is worth the whole cost of the book by itself. Chapter two covers the crucial topic of “Salvation By Grace” which you cannot be too clear about today. Chapter three sequentially follows with fourteen succinct pages on “Safekeeping in Grace” (i.e. eternal security). Chapter four logically follows with “Life Under Grace” in which Dr. Chafer clarifies important issues relative to grace in several sections:

· Grace Provides A Particular Rule of Life

· The Teachings of the Law

· The Kingdom Teachings

· Contrasts Between Law and Grace Teachings

· The Law Done Away

· The Sabbath, A Test Question

· Christ, the Believers Sphere in Grace

Chapter five ends the book with a “Conclusion and Appeal.”

In case you are unfamiliar with the late Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer, he taught Bible at Philadelphia School of the Bible from 1914–1923, after which he then founded the Evangelical Theological College (now Dallas Seminary) and served as professor of theology and president until his death in 1952.

I also like that Grace has an “Index of Subjects” and “Index of Scripture Texts” at the back which helps immensely when seeking a quick reference or perhaps a lengthy comment on a particular verse or passage.

PS ... the above above review suggests that Kregel continues to publish this but not that I could find ...
