  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Romans 1:5 "By whom we have received grace...for obedience ...to the faith among all nations, for his name"

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world"

Grace from God, as that Romans verse reads, brings about the obedience OF faith.

Be careful about cutting and pasting parts of verses to support your agenda.

Obedience must come from a transformation by the Holy Spirit.

It is NOT, obedience by your will.

The only way any of you will come to understand this is by God's bringing you to FAILURE, time and time again, so that one day, you will finally begin to realize that you are 100% incapable of pleasing God in your flesh.

Meanwhile, all your rightesousnesses, are as FILTHY RAGS.

Obedience OF faith, is something that God brings about in you, by His power, His Spirit.

Zech 4:6 Then he answered and said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.

Be careful HOW you hear, Jesus said.

"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." - Romans 6:11-22

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" - Colossians 3:1-10

"And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. - I John 2:3-7

There has to be effort on our part to obey God. God has given us His Spirit to help us obey, but He still gives us that choice to love Him and love our neighbor. But the penalty of sin and the curse of the Law has been dealt with by Christ.

So, what do you do when Jesus wants you to keep the 4th commandment, the 7th day sabbath ?
"IF..you love me, keep my commandments", (John 14:15).

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

A Christian is to place their will in God's hands.....and He will help the person to keep all God's commandments.
The only way any of you will come to understand this is by God's bringing you to FAILURE, time and time again, so that one day, you will finally begin to realize that you are 100% incapable of pleasing God in your flesh.
WRONG !
Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy"
God is not some weakling, who is unable, to give any person power to stop committing sin, in their lives !
Meanwhile, all your rightesousnesses, are as FILTHY RAGS.
The Righteousness of God....is the commandments of God (Psalms 119:172)

I agree.
God ...CAN....keep us from committing sin.

No, Jesus is the righteousness of God.

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. (Rom 3)

Sounds kind of stressful. I don't feel the need to "show" God that I love him. He knows. I do feel the need to love my fellow man, though. The works I do have nothing to do with pleasing God or demonstrating anything for him.

I don't fear I'll lose him either. It is the Lord who holds me, not the other way around :)

It's not a matter of losing Him. That said, He deserves to have you live for Him rather than for yourself.

Surely you're not claiming to be sinless?

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)
