About a year ago, there was some noise about the government forcing people to convert their existing IRAs and 401ks into government controlled retirement accounts. Of course, these accounts will be sold to us as a safe alternative to that mean old stock market (that they told us was better back in the 80s). But in reality, it's a ploy to get at people's retirement money and funnel it into treasury purchases to further rob us.
I have an IRA that's actually done well over the last 5 years. That is, I didn't lose any money. But my tinfoil hat is telling me to cash it out and take the penalty so that the government can't get at it. I'm worried that as soon as we know what's up it will be too late.
Has anyone else heard anything new about this?
