  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The old CF remembered where you were up to in each thread and proved a "Go to first unread" button to pick up where you left off.

Does the new format have the same facility?

I saw the 'Jump to new' button but I didn't think that 'new' was the same as 'first unread'.

What makes it even more confusing is the 'Jump to latest ' button.

OB
Hmm. I think my observation in the old system was that my first unread was the first marked 'new'. I would guess that 'latest' means the last post thereby skipping all the news you haven't read. But, I haven't tried it.

'Latest' might also work when you've read everything. Probably still means "jump to the end".

Under the old system I could read part way through a thread and the go to 'first unread' button took me back to where I left off. So, for instance, if I read to post 6 out of 10 posts the first unread button would take me back to post 6.

I never used it that way. Interesting. So, I'll wait for an expert answer.
