:help: I need help. See...I'm not gothic cuz I know it doesn't play a Christian role, but I don't know if people would consider me one. I like dressing in black. My hair used to be a clear brown, I tried making it light in Sept., but it didn't look like what I wanted, so I died it again, which now, is dark brown, but in the sun it has red and orange highlights. I put on black eyeshadow, both on my eyelid and a little on the bottom. And I listen to punk, metal, and rock, but it's not the scary type of music though, like Korn. Korn scares me so I don't really like that type. I know I'm not gothic, but do you think that most would think I am gothic? If I am giving the impression, I'll try to wear less black, wear less eyeshadow and try to listen less to music. Not just that, but some Christians beleive that metal and rock music is satanic and a really bad influence, so if everyone's telling me it is, then I'll try to not listen to it any more, but right now I'm not sure about any of this. So if you guyz can help me out, it'd be great.

Wearing black clothes and eyeshadow is not satanic. I like metal and punk too. Depending on the band, there's nothing wrong with that either. Just be who you are. If people judge you for it, then so be it. It doesn't seem to me that you're doing any of this stuff to rebel, or to stand out. You're just wearing what you think looks good on you right? I see far less of a problem with girls your age wearing black then I do with some of the things I see girls your age wearing at the mall. Don't sweat it.

Greetings Luvly,

I wouldn't worry overmuch with what others think about how ye dress, etc. I wear mostly black, I'm a night person, and I like mediaval-baroque period music. I apparently have a demeanor that makes others fear me as well, yet I don't even kill bugs. You're much better off expressing yourself in a creative and dignified manner than shedding your clothing like so many females do today.

I believe Jesus was a rebel in fashion during his time as well, how you dress does not make you less christian.

In the past, parents thought clasic rock like elvis was satanic and bad for their children, they are just afraid of what they dont like, know about or understand. Often its easier to just label something "satanic" than to try to understand it. The funny thing is, I bet many of them listened to music their parents thought was "satanic" when they were children.

Remember that in his time, Jesus dressed and acted differently too, it didn't make him satanic though. :)

Question #1: Why can't a Christian be Gothic?

I like dressing in black. My hair used to be a clear brown, I tried making it light in Sept., but it didn't look like what I wanted, so I died it again, which now, is dark brown, but in the sun it has red and orange highlights. I put on black eyeshadow, both on my eyelid and a little on the bottom.
Question #2: do you look and feel any less of a Christian for dressing this way? Does the Kingdom of God have a dress code?

And I listen to punk, metal, and rock, but it's not the scary type of music though, like Korn. Korn scares me so I don't really like that type.
Question #3: So you like your music loud with some killer guitar solos. What's the problem?

I know I'm not gothic, but do you think that most would think I am gothic? If I am giving the impression, I'll try to wear less black, wear less eyeshadow and try to listen less to music.
Question #4: If you were Gothic, would that be such a disaster?

Question #5: Why is it so important what other people think you are?

Not just that, but some Christians beleive that metal and rock music is satanic and a really bad influence, so if everyone's telling me it is, then I'll try to not listen to it any more, but right now I'm not sure about any of this.
Question #6: Are you going to go to hell for the music you listen to?

So if you guyz can help me out, it'd be great.
Just one heathen's advice: Be Gothic. be Christian, be proud, be happy.
Just don't wear the black makeup to church, and you'll be ok.

Hi Nathan Poe,
Well I thought I'd answer your questions.

1) I don't really know if it's ok for a Christian to be a gothic, but I know that in my church, we try to follow Jesus Christ's example of how He lived when He was here, so I don't think it would really fit into His lifestyle of When He was here.

2) Actually, I don't feel any different than any other person in my church or any other Christian, and I don't think I should:)

3) I don't think there's anything wwrong with it, but I don't think my parents would really aprove of it .

4) I don't really know if it would be for me, but I know that my parents would freak out for sure.

5) I seriously don't know why I care so much. I've tried not caring, but some how, I alwayz end up caring about what people think.

6) I don't think people go to hell for what they listen to, but I also don't believe that there is a hell. I believe that whn someone dies, they're only in a deep, deep sleep and they'll wake up when Jesus comes back. Either you go to heaven with Him or you stay and then the Earth is going to be consumed by fire and nothing will be left.

* Well I want to thank you for taking time to read this and write back. Oh, and I'd be too scared to wear make-up to church, if I did, the congergation would be all over me and my parents. Not just that, but my dad doesn't even want me wearing clear nail polish, so I would get in so much trouble if he were to see me. My mom doesn't care though, just as long as my dad doesn't find out.

**I also want to thank all of you for writing. :)

If you're worried about being goth, you probably aren't goth. Quit worrying about labels and just be yourself. If you like dressing in black clothing then do so. If you feel attractive or confident wearing the trappings of goth culture then feel free. Don't be so quick to label yourself or others. There is no reason a person cannot dress as they feel comfortable and still believe in a deity or practice a religion. If anyone else doesn't understand that then educate them. Dressing in black does not negate your faith. However, if you are truly concerned then wear clothing that you believe fits you better.

As for your music, if you feel it has negative effects then try limiting it or finding music that better suits your tastes. I see no harm in listening to punk, rock, metal, etc. If you are truly uncomfortable then look for christian musicicians singing in those genres. P.O.D. is good for rock, Sixpence is nice for more ambient musis. Inquire at a christian shop about more, those are the only two I know of.

The difference is there wasn't metal music around in Jesus's time.

Thanks! I've been involved in these fights for over 25 years and no one ever seems to listen to the other people, just wait for them to stop talking so they could jump on them!

Its clothes and I don't think god wants u to think about them........what sort of spiritual enlightenment would concern itself with what we cover our body with, is it not whats in our heart?Being free and happy and to be able to be different is what god created us for, why go against his creation and teachings?

I really know were I stand right now. I just moved and everthing's so different to what I was used to. But I'm gonna stop wearing eeshadow and wear less black, cuz down were I came from, no one really cared. But here, people take everything way too seriously and I don't want something to happen, so I'm just gonna kick-it for now.
