Good series

I need to buy a series for a friend on DVD.

Can anyone recommend a really good NEW series on TV over in the States or Europe at the moment? I'll order it from Amazon for them. I'm looking for something that is unlikely to have been on SA television yet.

He really enjoys Smallville - and has that already.

He also enjoyed Band of Brothers. Does anyone know of something similar to that - or another period/historical series?

It's been out for a while and the show is over 20 years old but Greatest American Hero would be some what similar to Smallville. And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself is a really good tv movie from HBO that's a historically accurate story about Mexican revolutionaries during the time of World War 1 and it's now on dvd. You might also look at the History Channel's dvds at their homepage.
