Good Movies...Not Hyped Up Enough

SInce there is a thread about bad movies that were hyped up, I thought I would start on with good movies that should have had more hype.

One of my personal favorites is The Truman Show. I thought it was excellently plotted with a storyline that kept a hold of you the whole time. I personally think that it should have had more hype then it did.

All of my favorite good movies are really old. As in before I was born old. So, I couldn't remember the hype at all.

Most of my favorite movies sadly are ones that were hyped. I usually don't hear about them unless they are.

For me Truman Show was hyped horribly in my area, because I live right by where it was filmed.

Donnie Darko
A cult hit, but outside the group, nobody's seen it.

Momento didn't get a whole lot of hype, but I really loved that movie.

Donnie Darko was a really good movie too... I heard about it once when it came out, and then not again until it had become a cult hit. I got it on netflix and I really really liked it.

The Man Who Knew Too Little with Bill Murray.

Yes!!! Great movie! I'd totally forgotten about it; I guess that tells you how hyped it was, eh?


What about Mulholland Drive? One of my favorite movies ever, but not hyped much.

And speaking of Billy Bob Thornton, Slingblade was also really good...believe it or not.

Didn't he get an oscar for that?

My Big Fat Greek Wedding. No hype, and no stars except for John Corbett. AFTER its success it was hyped and we didn't stop hearing about it, but that wasn't until it was on DVD and PPV.

I put some quotes on the "favorite movie quotes" thread, but this movie was never hyped & it has HILARIOUS writing: "Fools Rush In" (with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek).

I also never heard much hype about "Where the Heart Is" with Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Stockard Channing, Sally Field...GREAT movie that plays on Oxygen a lot. Wonderful performances! (especially Stockard Channing).

I will agree with Donnie Darko...although those who see it because of the hype is gets as a cult movie and don't like it will tell you that it is overhyped.
