This is definitely worth reposting.

The fellow who made the video about the Star of Bethlehem (a compelling argument, I might add), also did some research about what happened in the heavens on Good Friday.

Let’s break it down.

Passover begins on the 14th day of the Jewish lunar month of Nisan. Moreover, Passover begins at twilight, dividing 14 Nisan and 15 Nissan. The Gospels say the Lord was crucified on Preparation Day, a Friday. 14 Nisan 14 fell on a Friday Preparation Day, twice: 7 April AD 30 and 3 April AD 33. Daniel in 444 BC prophesied (Daniel 9:21–26) that the Anointed one would be cut off in 476 years after the decree to rebuild Jerusalem: AD 33.

The Bible records that, at the time of the crucifixion and death of the Lord, there were signs, including a “blood moon” or lunar eclipse.

Only one Passover lunar eclipse was visible from Jerusalem while Pilate was in office. It occurred on 3 April 33.

Actually the eclipse during 33 AD was not very visible in the middle east and it was during daylight hours. Lunar eclipses do not darken the sky, BTW But using the correct Jewish calendar of that time, the crucifixion actually happened April 25, 31 AD. And there was also a lunar eclipse directly overhead around 9 pm. You can see the difference in these NASA generated diagrams.

Darkness from Noon to three in the afternoon has nothing to do with a lunar eclipse.
Agreed. These were supranatural events, not natural. Next we will be hearing a natural explanation of how the sun "stood still" for Joshua.

There were some non-Biblical references to the darkness. Most of them tried to explain the darkness as an eclipse.

Two ancient historians Tacitus and Phlegon were referenced by several writers as they both commented on the darkness which would have been during the reign of Tiberius.

Three out of four Gospel writers mentioned the darkness, and they all specified the same time from noon to about 3pm.

NIV - Matthew 27:45 - "From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land".

NIV - Mark 15:33 - "At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon".

NIV Luke 23: 44-45 - "It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two."

On the business of the curtain being torn in two, I was at my wife's Baptist Church in the morning on Easter Friday (and at my own Catholic church at 3pm later in the day). However her pastor commented on this event. Tradiitionally it seems to be taught that the "Holy of Holies" was now accessible to anyone and not restricted to the the high priest once a year. He thought it was more along the lines of God saying "This place is finished", which about forty years later it most certainly was when the Roman armies destroyed it.
