  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I told you guys in another thread I've been meeting with the RCIA guy at the local church. And he gave me a book to read called " The Path Through Catholicsim." I was flipping through it, and found $100 in it. I gave it to the Priest on Sunday. And at our last meeting, Steve( the RCIA guy), said that money was from some lady that used to work there that would slip money into a book, and when a homeless person would come in, she'd give him the money, and the book to read. But apparently, she left the Church and forgot it. So Steve told me, he talked it over with the Priest, and decided to give it to me to give to someone in need. I was wondering if any of you guys have a good charity you give to? Or if you could suggest one that is good. Because I want to make sure that the money I give gets to the people that need it. I don't want to pay some chairty that's really a money-making front for some fatcat businessman.

If you want to insure it goes to someone in need, I would go straight to your local soup kitchen; maybe volunteer there and see what they may need in so far as food or supplies, even buyit yourself with the money.

Anyway, it's good to see you are being honest with this money. The average person would probably have kept the money for themselves.

Blessings to you,

-Davide

Mercy Corps International is an amazing Relief and Development organization working in troubled spots all over the world.

The co-founder, Dan O'Neill, is a convert to Catholicism (son-in-law of entertainer Pat Boone). Year after year, Mercy Corps gets top ratings for their efficiency and their use of funds -- 91% goes directly to the people they are trying to help. You can read about their ratings online... and about all the work they are doing in various countries.

This is the organization that Third Order Franciscan, John Michael Talbot, promotes through his international music ministry.
