Can anybody recommend me a good adventure game that does not include any new-age/spiritual/occultic content? Age doesn't matter as long as it has a good story. I've tried Indiana Jones and the Search for Atlantis and I didn't like all there references to Marduk and uninstalled the game when they had a seance scene. I also tried The Longest Journey and didn't like a lot of the content in that game as well.
I know it's probably a tall order, but if anyone has some suggestions I'd be a very much happy person. :)

I really can't think of any adventure game that doesn't involve some sort of fantasy or magic element. It rules out the classics like Zelda and Fable, all of the darker ones like Resident Evil or Silent Hill, and all of the sci-fi genre like Mass Effect. The only thing I can think of that are left are games like Call of Duty or other realism-style shooter games. But those aren't really adventure games.

Both of the Uncharted games for the PS3 are amazing adventure games, although they do contain some supernatural and bizarre elements. If you can get past those things the games are awesome.

I'm sorry you didn't like Fate of Atlantis. That's one of my favorite games ever.

Yeah, a year ago I might have kept going, but I'm just starting to realize I need to be more careful about this kind of thing.

Mass effect and Mass effect 2 definitely

I guess I'm out of options because I've already played the Uncharted games and Mass Effect 1 and I won't be able to run ME2 until I upgrade my PC. Ahh well, thanks anyway.

I don't know if the content would concern you, but Grim Fandango is regarded by many as one of the best adventure games of all time. The game doesn't take anything seriously, though the game does portray the lead character as a salesman in a rather humorous imagining of a sort of purgatory.

Secret of Monkey Island (and the sequel) is another good game of this type.

So I ordered Space and Police Quest. Should keep me busy for awhile.

While we're on the topic, has anyone played A Mind Forever Voyaging? It's a text-only adventure from the mid-80s about an AI that finds out it's whole life has been a simulation and he was created to explore the ramifications of a new government bill that will radically change the way the country is run in the hopes of rejuvenating a decaying society. So in the simulation you are to explore the entire city and record certain details and how they change over the span of 10, 20, 30, and 40 years. The transformation is vast and I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say that this story stayed with me for a long time. It's not so much a game as it is an interactive Sci-Fi novel and it was in fact written by a real author. There is really only one real puzzle at the end but I didn't mind one bit because it kept me absorbed in the plot the entire time. Anyone who is an adventure gamer, or Sci-Fi buff should try this game. I think it's Abandonware, so you should be able to download it free from Homeoftheunderdogs.net

I haven't played it but my son plays Evony Online, a free MMO which shares some things in common with the Civilization series. You have to build your city and armies and heros, and then go out and try and conquer the realm through either war or diplomacy. As yet I haven't seen any real magic or "occult" type references in it.

Star Trek Online may be worth a look. I would consider it an adventure game, as you prowl the galaxy fighting Klingons and Romulans and all the other Star Trek races for dominance.

Oblivion the Elder scrolls is also worth a look as is Fable 2. If you fancy something post apocolyptic that doesn't take it self too seriously Fallout 3.
Those are RPG, not adventure. :)

(RPG > Adventure games though.;))

So, now I remember what I hated about old games. They are SO MEAN! They'll take every opportunity to kill you for no apparent reason. Walk on a random patch of grass, and it turns out be be a hidden pit. Try smelling something and it melts your face off. In the early Space Quests, if you miss a hidden item in one of the first stages, you'll find that you can't complete one of the final levels. In Police Quest, if you take your car out without first doing a walk-around "inspection", you'll die. These games are addictive but frustrating!
