I know that being a Christian is about getting to know God and loving Him. And by loving Him, we make sacrifices to please Him and things like that. i had never done this before but i wanted to get to know God better by "going on a walk" with Him. I wrote Him a letter, but i didnt know what to do with it afterwards. i put it under my pillow but should i expect a reply from God? How do i "go for a walk" with God? i just dont understand. If anyone can explain it to me please, that would be great.

Think of your best friend. Think of how often you may talk to her and all deep thoughts and inner feelings you share. Its the same with God, he wants to be your best friend. He wants you to talk to him and get to know him. You do this by spending time in prayer, and studying the Bible. The more time you spend with him, the more you'll come to know his voice and the closer you will be with him.

My minister's wife once said she loves to talk to God (outloud) as she's driving down the road. She said she just has regular conversation like he was sitting in the passenger seat. I think writing a letter to Him is a pretty cool idea. Maybe you could start a journal of your letters to him and then add some scriptural research you do to follow-up your letters. It could develop into a really interesting walk with God!

Everyone's walk looks different. But basically your "walk" will be the sum total of experiences you have with God and how you approach and deal with them.. Having God as a best friend can be a good place to start.
The Most important thing is not to get complacent in your efforts or your level of understanding with God.. With "Best friends" it is easy to grow into a place of complacency with each other. Just keep in mind what scripture says about "Luke warm brothers."

But, Like I said it can be a good place to start.

Awsome!

To grow in faith and to walk with God,

First you need to see where you are going, Psa 119:105NUN. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The bible, spend time every day reading it! But we have to also believe it and live by it, it has awsome power to change your life and bring you close to God.

1Pe 2:2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Rom 10:17So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

You are on a walk with GOD. From the moment you were conceived your creator has been with you every step you have taken.

I agree with the above advice and 2 good things to read are
1. Footprints poem (just Google it)
2. The Shack new book on the Christian best sellers list not expensive

The Shack book has copped some criticism for some of it's 'theology' but it is a wake up to how loving God is and how much He is into you and your life. I love The Shack and recommend it. After reading it I think you will be able to talk with Jesus in a way cool way and listen as He even talks back!

I went for a walk with God this morning =) down by the beach. I agree with the above posts, especially the one about talking to God like he's one of your closest friends... because really he is.

And like Daddy-Boy suggested, check out the "The Shack". I picked it up and started reading it not knowing what it was about, it belonged to one of my housemates, and I was really bored... I felt like it started off slowly, but the relationship illustrated with God and the entire trinity will change the way you think about your relationship with God for sure! Ok so some things aren't totally biblical... but it's not the Bible, and neither should it be treated as one... It's a really good read =)

Greetings All!

I have always viewed walking with God as platform for communicating with Him.
I like the idea of writing a letter to God.
I also like the image of talking to Jesus like He is a passenger in your car.
I know people who pray by acting like they are talking to Him on their cell phone.
I know people who journal in two colors, one being what they say and the other color being what God says to them.
I think God made us very creative and the imporant thing is to communicate with Him like you would any friend.

Praying for you.

As in any relationship it's reliant upon communication and listening. I agree with what others have said about thinking of Him as your friend and just talking to Him like he is. I will just start talking to Him while I'm doing laundry, washing dishes, cooking dinner, etc. I talk about how I feel, and things in my life, just about everything basically.
I know someone who said that throughout the day they would say, "Lord you're here and I'm here". They said it keeps them feeling close to Him and reminds them that He is always with us. It's also important to read the Word daily. That's how we learn about God...who He is, His character, etc.
It's not just talking to God, it's also listening. We need to have quiet time with Him that we may hear what He has to say to us. The way I do this is by going to my room, grabbing my notebook and pen, and sitting quietly. I will say, "Speak Lord for I am listening, ready and willing to obey." and then get quiet and just listen for that still, small voice of the Lord. I keep a notebook that I write everything in.
I like the idea of writing a letter. I've never done that before, I always just start praying, talking to Him and just write down what He says, not what I say. That's just the way I prefer, but I think a letter is nice. I do believe that you can receive an answer to your letter, you just need to get quiet and listen.
