  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quite soon, I was told those of us in RCIA who wish to join the Church will be attending the 'main' mass, then go up in front of everyone and be seen as joining.

I only talked about this real briefly as I left the class. Has anyone done this? I was told it was not something I "had" to do. I have always wanted to be quiet, humble in everything I do religiously. I do not really want to make a big deal out of any of this. I may see if I can also just quietly take communion at Easter with everyone else when I finally join.

Has anyone gone through this and has anything to tell me? Is it possible, from now to Easter (as a baptized Christian) to do everything quietly and discretely?

I am doing this next weekend. I believe it is a required part of the Rite. It's a beautiful ceremony I am told. However, I haven't been told the details. I was told a question will be asked of me by the priest, and I should prepare an answer... Other than that, I was suggested to dress nice, and prepare for a powerful, emotional day.

I asked and was told if I missed it, nothing would happen, I wouldn't be held back. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping and I was worried I wouldn't be allowed to join if I missed it due to that.

My parish isn't exactly small. I like sitting in the back and being alone. I'm not sure on this...
I don't want to seem humble, especially for righteousness' sake, but I have no desire to go up there, now or at Easter.

I really recommend that you go through the process. This is a time which is not only for you as an action of initiation but also very important for the congregation. I know that I am not one for stuff like that either but try to see the big picture value on this. For the congregation, it is important that they see who the new candidates are so they can pray for you and encourage you. It's also very encouraging for the congregation to see the body of Christ growing within their community. You are to be received on Easter into a vast and beautiful Church where you will not only be ministered to but you will be ministering. This is just a first step. It's not meant to be a "Hey look at me" moment and if it's done anything like it is at my Church it is brief and solemn.

By the way it's also very encouraging for all of us at OBOB to see the number of new candidates just here on the board! Thanks for being here!

I didn't read any replies, but this is what I think.
I think you should go through with it. The rest of the congregation can see the participants that they have that are going to be entering into the Church, and they can pray for you on this journey. =)
Although you want to be the humble one in the back, going to the front of the Church for this acknowlegment can't really change that.
Pray about it! =D

Good luck through your RCIA process. I'll pray for you (and all the other RCIA participants! :D) :crossrc:
