  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello everyone,

While I was praying last night, I thought about the place in the bible where Jesus displayed anger by overturning the table of the men who were gambling. It struck me that most of us view God as a "loving" God...and that he is indeed. However, then I thought about that scene where Jesus displayed a moment of what Christians sometimes refer to as "righteous anger." I guess what leads me to discuss this topic is...Since we are not sinless, do we have a right as Christians to display righteous anger?? The more I contemplated on this thought while I was praying, I was remembered by another proverb (don't remember which one) that talks about letting God take revenge instead of us acting out. This could be rather confusing because we know that Jesus had righteous anger, but who determines what is righteous? Also, some have taken righteous anger to the extreme where there are extremists out there killing other people in the name of Christianity (which is totally wrong in my opinion).

Just a topic for discussion. I would like to know everyone's viewpoints on this. As I continue to grow spiritually, I keep thirsting for wisdom and truths. Looking forward to everyone's reply. :groupray:

In my opinion, anger is anger. Even if you decide to add the word "righteous" in front of it, it's still anger. "Righteous anger" sounds as though you are trying to minimize into something less. (hope that didn't sound rude)

It sounds as tho you are saying that anger is sinful. It's not! God can be angry so it proves that anger isn't sinful. When act out on your anger in order to hurt others or to make yourself feel better, then it becomes a sinful.

I was remembered by another proverb (don't remember which one) that talks about letting God take revenge instead of us acting out. This could be rather confusing because we know that Jesus had righteous anger, but who determines what is righteous?

Romans 12:9
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.

Deuteronomy 32
Vengeance is Mine, and retribution,
In due time their foot will slip;
For the day of their calamity is near,
And the impending things are hastening upon them.

Don't forget, Jesus had the "right" to act that way because he is Lord.
Just my thoughts.
