I have a question.
I have always been told that we need to be praying for God's will to prevail in all situations. I have heard testimonies from people that have prayed for their own will to prevail and found themselves to be very unhappy people when God granted it.
I was listening to a preaching this morning on a web cast they were quoting Romans 8:26-28. They were saying that not everything that happens is Gods will and that we need to be praying for things (not material items) and fighting against evil. If we resist the evil God will help us. (the intercession)
I have been guilty of saying if such and such happens then its Gods will and I will accept His will. My sister had cancer, she is in remission now, although I prayed for Gods will to prevail, if she wouldnt have been in remission, I would have accepted it and continued praying for His will to prevail. Maybe I didnt accept it?
This preacher basically stated that it is not Gods will for people to have cancer, or their business to go under etc.
Now I go back to Job and realize that satan did tempt job.
Have I been taught wrong doctrine?
That all things that happen arent from God.
Before I was saved, a christian friend of mine said God decided before someone was born, that he knew when they would die. Which she was meaning a terrible accident etc (i wont go into details of what we were discussing), I had a hard time swallowing that and it kind of turned me off God at that time, because I wasn't living for God then.
I had asked someone i know this question just recently, if Gods will always prevails, then why do we bother to pray for it? I guess I was searching for an answer that I heard this morning on this web cast.
If someone dies in a terrible accident because of drinking - people say well its a lesson to those left here that we shouldnt drink and drive. I have heard this over and over from behind the pulpit.
What I heard this morning was its not Gods will for that to happen.
Maybe I havent had time to let this sink in, so hopefully someone with understanding can get me on the right track. Ill be praying for an answer.
Always in Christ,
