  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm having trouble putting two things together in my brain, and I know the folks here at deeper fellowship can help me with where to look for help.

First of all there are these:

"21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. 23 "

"And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight" I John 3:21

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." John 14:14

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. " John 15:7

Okay, there are all these promises in The Bible about receiving what you ask for. Why then, do many people (myself included) pray for something and then add, "If it is your will God"?

Also, if we pray for something and it doesn't turn out the way we think it should, people will say, "God is just answering your prayer in a different way." That goes against these Bible verses, does it not?

So, finally I look at these promises of asking and receiving and I become afraid of putting my whole faith in that one prayer that I really want answered. What if my prayer is not "God's will?" I will have really gotten my hopes up, and I'm afraid I would crash and get angry at God for not giving me what I asked for. How do I accept God's will after deciding to pray with never ending Faith?

How do I pray for something that I would really like to happen, that I believe will help defeat evil, an it would really benefit me? I almost feel guilty praying for it, because it would greatly benefit me... and yet, it would defeat my enemy.

Thanks for any replies. I find you all here at Deeper Fellowship so thoughtful. God Bless you.

God will provide what we NEED.
Sometimes we ask for WANTS.
We seek His will to discern our NEEDS versus WANTS.

Everyone that prays to have a child is not going to get their own child necessarily.
Maybe instead their ministry is to do Children's Ministry.
I have a good friend in which that happened to.
She was satisfied with doing Children's Ministry instead of having her own children.

So yes sometimes the answer to our prayers may be yes, no or WAIT.

i believe its becuase the closer you get to God the more youll begin to sense what is and is not his will, and yes you do need to seek the Lord first about those things.

the bible does say to ask and you shall receive, whatever things you ask for, if it be any good thing, but the bible also says you need to acknowledge him in all your ways asnd he will direct your path, you need to seek God and ask him about his will in the situation at all times too.
and the bible asumes if you follow one scripture youll follow them all.
the bible doesnt teach anything for you to do knowing or assuming that you wont do the rest of the things it taught you to do. it always assumes you know the rest of scripture and do all things in the light of other scripture.

the bible says to acknowledge him in all your ways, so before you begin to ask for certain things and certain petition for things you first need to ask what his will or plan for that situation is, you dont always need to, i mean if your child is sick and dying, chances are God wants him healed.... you dont really need to seek God about that one...
but other things, acknowledge him in all your ways, and let him guide your prayers, and knock and the door will be opened.
i mean, thats what it is to pray in the holyghost, when we know not what to pray he prays for us, thats why the holyspirit influences our prayers, so that we do pray God inspired prayers.

the question isnt really, does God really answer all prayers... will he answer all of them?
the question is, did you seek to find Gods will in that COMPLICATED situation and let that determine your prayer, when you didnt know what to pray?
and if even if you cant be sure about the specifics you can always pray
"your will be done Lord... let this person be saved lord.... let this person see you Lord... bless me and keep me through this Lord...
becuase noone needs to wonder whether or not those things are Gods will, they always are.
and if its something more specific, acknowledge him first.

Godbless
Lee.

God's Kingdom is not (in the first place) about meeting our needs

We are to seek His Kingdom first: Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Then we are to be transformed, in order that we'll be able to know what His will is: Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
We are to abide in Him: Joh 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
We are to do what pleases Him: 1 Jo 3:22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

AMEN...

but we also know that if we are ever in need that Gods perfect will is to meet that need, and we never need worry about laying our cares before the Lord, becuase he cares for us.
God will always answer those prayers.
God is deeply in love with us, he so wants to comfort and support and provide for us, the way a Godly husband does his wife, he never tells his wife no, he never refuses her becuase he doesnt think her time has come yet.
it is his pleasure to affectionately love her and give her all that is in his power to give, and if it isnt, he goes and gets it for her.
