  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God seems to be pointing me in a surprising direction.

Seems like every time I pray about a particular subject, God points me in the same direction.

Like, I prayed about the subject, and asked God if it was his will, he would arrange for something to happen in a certain way. Even before I was done praying, that thing happened in that very way. It wasn't something that usually happens to me, and I asked for God to set it in motion in a specific way. Road sign Number 1?

Then, I prayed that if this truly was God's will for me, that a certain song would come on the radio next. Even before I said Amen, that song started playing. The announcer had not announced the song play list ahead of time, and I had just started listening to that station a minute before, while another song was playing. Road sign Number 2?

Then tonight, I asked God's will on that subject again, and he told me to check my voice mail at work. I don't usually care about my voice mail on weekends, figuring that anything on there can't be addressed til monday anyway, so why check it. There was one message, and it was about that very topic. Unusual, because the subject I was praying about has nothing to do with work. Road sign Number 3?

It also seems like God is opening my eyes that he has been trying to lead me in this direction for a couple years, and I just didn't see it.

Now that my illness is in check and I'm not sick anymore, this path God seems to be pointing out seems to be a real opportunity. Before, it was something that seemed unlikely, if not impossible.

What do you guys think? Are these legitimate road signs from God, or is it wishful thinking on my part?

(The radio thing, once before I asked God to communicate with me that way, in all seriousness of heart, and He did and I ignored it, thinking that I was ascribing meaning to a random event, and then regretted it, because it was a real sign for something He HAD wanted me to do. Only once.)

God certainly has a variety of options when it comes to speaking to us. But I would not know how to respond to this. Seems to me God may use this method for one and not another. This is a good one. I would tell you to pray about it, but.....

Anyway, I hope someone wiser than me has a really satisfying answer for you.

But who's wiser than you Gerry? ;)

I know if someone else were asking this question, I'd tell 'em not to put too much credence in "signs" like these. But it's gotten a little too coincidental. That's why I'm asking.

There is wisdom in a variety of advisers, right?

Well you surely are full of tough questions tonight. wow!

But one thing is for sure. Like you say: "it's gotten a little too coincidental".

Seems for sure SOMEONE is speaking to you. I can only pray, and I have, that God makes it perfectly clear to you.

lambslove,

I have had a few times in my life when God gave me signs, like you are saying. I have also had a few times when I thought something was from God, and it turned out not to be. So I have learned to be very careful with this.

If everything lines up with scripture, and you feel a sense of peace within your spirit about this, then it may very well be that God is giving you a sign.

I should add, I don't believe in *coincidences* ;)

I pray that Gods will be done in you and through you. Lambslove, you are a very special person, and God is showing you the direction he wants you to go. My advice is don't keep looking for more signs, when he has already given you the directions. Follow your heart, and your sound mind that God gave you. I will pray for you in all that you do. God Bless

Thanks yins! (Eastern Ohioan dialect for the second person plural pronoun)

What I really want more than anything else is to fulfill the plan that God has for me. I've been out of his will before, and it gets painful! I sometimes thought that something was his will, and as I prayed about it, and you guys prayed about it, and I got wise counsel, it became clear that it was not God's plan, but wishful thinking of my own. I want to be very sure on this.

It would be nice if once in a while we could sit down face to face with God and ask Him, "What would you do?" and "What is your best will?" I know he eventually does let us know, though.

I can feel people praying about this, and that makes a big difference! Whenever a handful of us are in agreement on a prayer, he is extra faithful to answer!

Even if the answer is no, I want to do God's will, not my own. This is the first time in my life when I have honestly sought His will above my own. Up til now, I've always told him what I want and hoped he would bless it.

((It also seems like God is opening my eyes that he has been trying to lead me in this direction for a couple years, and I just didn't see it.))

I like to ask God to speak to me through the scriptures or to open up my understanding of them, so I can not only know His will, but also so I can know His thoughts and attitude.

Often even when we know the will of God. We still have to wait on Him to show us how to go about it. The thing that gets so many people in trouble is they get out ahead of God, without getting proper instruction from Him on how to go about doing what He wants us to do.
