CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because Christians view God as being very different from organisms with biological bodies, I don't think it's meaningful to assign gender to God -- much as it's meaningless to ask "What color is God's hair?" or "How tall is God?"

Hello LoneWolf123, that's a good thing, because the Persons of the Godhead, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, are never referred to as "gals" in the Bible
, nor do they ever refer to themselves as such.GREAT offense is sometimes taken today if the wrong pronoun is used to describe someone (even when they want to be thought of as having a different gender than they were born with). Perhaps (for a number of different reasons) we should continue to address the Godhead as they have been defined for us in the Bible, as they have chosen to be addressed personally, and as they address each other, as "Guys".

God the Father and God the Son are males which is why they are Father and Son plus they are described as looking male whenever they have been seen.
God is male, called "Father" in the OT and the NT. When God made Adam in his own image, he made him male. Later when he wanted Adam to have a companion, he made a female from him.
Mal_2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
1Ch_29:10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
Isa_63:16 Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting.
Isa_64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Psa_89:26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
God the Father is always described as looking like an older male in every description that appears in scripture.
Dan 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
Joh 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Since we know Jesus was a male, we also know the Father is a male who looks like the Son.

I remember reading somewhere that God is the only male, and that all other souls are female. It was in the context of Hinduism, but I can't remember where I read it. I rather liked that view.
But while I'm more comfortable viewing God as male (and in more of a modified Krishnaic context), I can see how He might transcend gender, especially given the biblical text that claims He made us in our image -- male and female. So He probably embodies the full spectrum, gender-wise. However, given that I'm only human and can only grasp a fraction of who God is, I just go with God being a guy. This is also more comfortable for me given my approach to loving God, which has in the past taken on the flavor of 'bridal mysticism' or 'madhurya bhava'.

I read somewhere that one reason God might have been portrayed as masculine in many cultures is to give males a father figure/masculine role model. People have always had wars which could kill off many of the men. Even if the men didn't die they could be so busy with work that they weren't able to spend a lot of time with their children. Perceiving God as a guy was a way to sort of fill the gap of their dad and maybe other male relatives as well.
Frankly, I think God is beyond gender, race, etc. I don't think it's wrong for a Chinese person, for example, to draw Jesus as Chinese like themselves to relate to God. Which some Chinese have done. Nor do I believe it's inherently evil to view God in a feminine light or having a feminine aspect. The adoration of Mary in Catholicism could have fit a similar purpose.
