God's Existence Proved in 5 Minutes

In this video, Torah scholar and physicist Dr. Gerald Schroeder demonstrates the existence of God:

Please note that Dr. Schroeder does this entirely by appealing to the laws of physics.

In case you needed more proof of God's existence:

The first five books of the Bible (the books of Moses) are known as the Torah. In Hebrew the word Torah is represented by the consonants

. Hebrew is read right from left, so the letters

are equivalent to the English letters "TORH."

In the Hebrew text of the book of Genesis, if you take the first ("T"), then count 49 letters, the next letter (the 50th) is ("O"); the next 50th is ("R"); and then the next 50th is ("H"). In other words, after the first "T", in 50 letter increments, we find the letters spelling "Torah."

In the book of Exodus, we encounter the same result...

In the fourth book of the Torah, the book of Numbers, we discover this 49 letter interval works with "HROT," that is, TORH backwards. (See Figure 2)

A similar 49 letter interval also appears in the fifth book the Torah, the book of Deuteronomy. However, in the book of Deuteronomy the interval starts in the fifth verse instead of the first. Why the fifth verse? According to the Talmud the book of Deuteronomy doesn't begin until the fifth verse where it states "On the other side of the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses undertook to expound the Torah..."1

In the middle book, the book of Leviticus, it doesn't seem to work either way. But it does work for YHWH, the sacred name of God ("Yahweh" or "Jehovah," translated "LORD" in the King James Version), if you count in seven letter increments. (See Figure 3)

According to mathematician Daniel Michaelson:

“The number 50 has several important meanings in Judaism. Every fiftieth year is a jubilee year; the Torah was given 50 days after the Exodus from Egypt, and there are 50 gates of wisdom.”4

Professor Michaelson continues:

“At this point, a skeptical reader would exclaim that the whole system is nothing but a coincidence… ‘I’m sure,’ this skeptic would continue, ‘you would be able to find such words and systems in any book.'”

In his article, Codes in the Torah, professor Michaelson addresses in detail the mathematical probability of these Torah codes and concludes that “the probability of such a coincidence is about one in three million!”

Daniel Michelson was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1949 to parents who survived the Holocaust. In 1971 he graduated in Mathematics from Moscow University and emigrated to Israel. From 1972-1980 he taught Mathematics at Tel Aviv University, studied toward a doctorate and served in the army. Upon completing his PhD thesis in Applied Mathematics in 1980, he did postdoctoral research at the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1983 he was awarded fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and from the Igal Alon Foundation. In the fall of 1983 Michelson returned to Israel and started to teach at the Hebrew University. There he learned about the codes in the Torah from his colleague and friend Dr. Eli Rips. This led him eventually, he says, "to do t'shuva". Later he became involved in researching the Torah codes and lecturing about them (particularly in Los Angeles and Berkeley, California). Currently, Michelson is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at UCLA and at the Hebrew University. He lives now in Har Nof, Jerusalem, with his wife and three sons.

He's not trying to prove in that video that God watches over it. Think Deism. (To me, however, Deism is worse than simplistic. First Cause, the God who created, is not subject to what he created; to him, then, it may well be that all time, all events, are simultaneous. The time he created is for accomplishing the thing that he sees as complete.)

Numerology is not proof that a god exists. It is not even evidence of a god.

Numerology patterns in the holy book of a culture who believed in codes and Numerology isn't particularly impressive as evidence far an entity with the power to literally write his name in the stars.

His claims about the nature of things pre-universe are effectively unknown. The known laws of physics break own at a certain point, after which we can't really say what happened or what was. He's basically just speculating about the nature of the pre-universe and then labeling that "god".

There is also nothing to suggest it's an intelligent force or that the universe was created as a deliberate act. And certainly nothing to suggest it's the Biblical god and all the associated theological baggage that comes with that claim.

At best you might get something approaching deism out of his argument. But even that is a stretch.

It's akin to him doing a math problem, writing out the first line, skipping the next 50 lines, and then declaring the answer. It's a far cry from demonstrating the existence of the Biblical god.

Let me see if I've got this. You want me to believe that there's an invisible being responsible for everything who can read my thoughts and the thoughts of every person as well as every single living being alive and dead and yet to be born and who has a plan for us all. He is influencing what will happen and through his grand plan causes everything that has happened and will happen to come to be. You want me to believe that even though he has this plan and is firmly in control I have free will and can do whatever I wish. And this being knows what I will do and has taken it into account so that his plan won't be thrown off when I do stupid things. This super intelligent being is managing the lives of all 7 BILLION of us and all the animals and plants and all the beings on any other planets out there. This same being created the entire universe. All of it. Every plant, animal, planet, star, asteroid and rock.

And the only proof you can find of its existence is the placement of some letters in an ancient text that might spell out a form of the text's name backwards. Meanwhile a kid managed to put Rick Astley's song into a term paper. The entire thing. All of it.

THIS is what you call proof of God's existence???
