Need some answers

What are they really?

Is it alright to Baptise a baby?

So far as I know, AoG don't go in for appointed 'Godparents'. When a child is a few months old, we have a dedication ceremony when the child is presented to the fellowship and before God. Then the fellowship is asked if they are willing to see this child mentored during its lifetime and nurtured into the fellowship and the Kingdom of God. All those who agree to this committment are asked to stand. Usually the entire fellowship rises to its feet.

But before I was saved, I was a nominal member of the Anglican church or Church of England. They do have Godparents and I was actually made such to two of my nephews, both of whom are now in their forties. Sadly, I had little idea what that actually meant and by the time I did, they were not prepared to accept my 'nurturing' into the Kingdom. A fact which grieves me greatly as they have no interest in or patience with church or religion. I think for an awful lot of people being or having a Godparent is a nominal thing with little real meaning or acitivity.

However, I do know of good Christian people in the Anglican church who are excellent Godparents and have enable their charges to become good Christian people in their turn despite unbelieving parents and family. Rare but it does happen.

What are they really?
From what I have seen and heard they are non-related adults who promise to watch over the nurturing and devopment of the child. I am not sure if this involves spiritual guidance. It can, but I don't know if it is mandatory to be a God-Parent. Now a Spiritual-Parent is a big difference where the individual "adopts" the individual spiritually and sees to their spiritual development.

Is it alright to Baptise a baby?
Of course you can, but it doesn't mean the individual won't rebel when they get older. And it doesn't save their spirit from hell. Baptism is way of formally declaring that the individual is now part of the church or fellowship. It is then necessary to make sure that individual (as he/she grows) learns how to live in a Godly way. The inclusion into the church will being salvation to the body and soul.

No, I would rather be a spiritual father.

What are GodParents:

Godparents are
The role of godparents is to:

• Pray for their godchild,
• Talk to them about God and encourage them in the Christian faith,
• Lead them, by their example and the quality of life they lead, towards a Christian way of life,
• Encourage them in their membership of the local church,
• Help them to keep the promises made on their behalf at the Baptism service until they can make these promises for themselves at Confirmation.
  
  (I would add, confirmation is a Catholic, mainline protestant right of passage where a young person makes a public profession of faith themselves>)

I would encourage you to select a person or persons who are of the same faith tradition as you, because they will know what your beliefs are, and the traditions of your faith.

They also could act as legal guardians should something happen to you. This varies from state to state. and should be concidered, as well.

I am a God Mother, I have both adult, and young teens that I am GodMother to at this time.

I would be delighted that I was asked and would do it again.

I am also the "unofficial GodMother" to kids that have asked me

Godparents Need some answers:

What are they really?
They are the person or persons who agree to take care of your child if something happens to their parents.They also help to upbring the child in the lord, helping the child, being there for the child, and helping the parent out with teaching the child right and wrong(discipline).

Is it alright to Baptise a baby?
It's okay to baptize them but they will need it all over again.It won't really count b/c they don't know what it means and able to speak for themselves to accept it or not and will still need it when they get old after they have the understanding of what it is and what it means.

I think it would be a great opportunity and experience, it's something that can change your life.As well as the child's life.

I just wanted to say that Godparents can change a child's life. I have great godparents and I love them so much.They have been there for me and they have changed my life. Basically I look to them like family. Their family is my family. Often times during the hoildays I am around them and all. I also get to see them alot b/c we go to the church that they started and all. When choosing a godparent make sure it's someone who will be there for you child and be involved into their lifes.Someone that will help to bring them up into the upbringing of the lord

No I don't need a Godmother.....My boyfriend and I where ask by are friends who just had a baby Girl....I just don't really know to much about it......My boyfriend is telling me that's its great that they asked us.....but like Flaglady says at are church we do the whole dedication ceremony thing...I'm just new to this all.....but my boyfriend knows more about it....He's says it's great that they asked but we don't baptise babies.....

We are going to talk with are friends who asked us......I'm still going to be there for that child....she's so cute.....

Thats great to hear and wish you ll the best. Just wanted to ssay having Godparents can affect your life greatly it has affected mine. It's a great opportunity for the both of you as well as the child and her parents
