Lately I've been listening to preachers. They will say something like "We pray for things, and we expect God to work some big miracle, but he won't do that. Now, he could if he wanted to , but he won't."

Why is that why won't God work big miracles? Why does God seem to work only through "coincidence", and not divine intervention, where there is no other explanation than the power of God coming down?

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you looking for miracles like a giant ship with a hole in it's side not sinking? Something like that?

I've heard accounts within the Orthodox expression of Christianity of things that would make a Pentecostal a sceptic. Things like men walking on water, monks whose hands become flames of fire, men and women walking but not touching the ground, praying but not touching the ground in any way, icons that weep myhr, bones that seep myhr. The book "Father Arseny" is full of these types of miracles.

Of course, the biggest miracle of all, and it happens every year during Orthodox Easter, is the miracle of the Holy Fire. Fire that is not created in any way by man, suddenly lights the candles of the Patriarch of Jerusalem. This has been an annual miracle for at least the last 1,400 years.

There are miracles happening every where that can only be explained as done by God. I guess these guys don't know where to look.

Peace.

it has to do with how much you trust God and how much faith you have in him to do mighty miracles or simple miracles, we cant be double-minded you have to be one in him minded, when you trust jesus to do the impossible he will its that simple, if were waivering thinking he might or he wont then hes not going to, Its all about living in expectation and knowing your God is big enough to do anything, after all he is God, remember our minds put God in a box, and to so as much limit him from doing things in our lives from our thinking, hes not in a box hes ruling and Governing the universe..amen hope this helps

also it really depends on what you pray for. if you're praying for something you 'need' or else known as want but God doesnt think you need it, then he will obviously not give it to you. can you be a little more specific on what you are praying for?

Matt. 17:20 says " I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

pray with FAITH.

James 5:15a "And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well"

Hi MrStace and others:

And what is a bigger miracle than changing the human heart? Read through some of the beautiful testimonies here in the different threads - like the woman who was a stripper for years, came to know the Lord through a drunk, and now is seeking to grow in Christ. Or your own testimony, whatever it might be.

What greater miracle could there be than that?

Preachers who say things like that have grown hardened in their hearts...seeking signs and wonders and disbelieving the very wonder of life all around them. They only show their own unbelief and set themselves up to believe the lie of the lawless one when he comes upon the world's stage.

I have been reading through the posts here, and it looks like you all believe that God can work big miracles, if we allow him, and not limit him. It's takes faith.

I have read and been taught this for years, however, I have never seen this hapen within my own life. I have prayed for a job change, but that never happened. There was also someone in my life that was special to me, and that person was taken out of my life, and I asked God to bring them back or replace them, and that never happened. I have been told that God will never take away anything that you need. Right now, I am having a hard time believing that. I have prayed for an answer, but have not received it.

I have suffered from Anxiety and Depression all of my life. I am on medication for it, which has helped, but it is still a struggle. I have asked God to take it away from me, but he has not.

For a long time I had prayed for these things in faith believing that God would answer them, but after time continually praying and never receiving gets to the point of doing more harm that good. It is a constant reminder of the needs of life, and they are still not supplied.

I am usually not this negative in my faith, but this past week has been kinda of rough.

I can relate to you, bro. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense. Nevertheless, God is there. Isaiah 58 answers some of our questions, but not all. In spite of having gone through many hard times, I have managed to see a multitude of miracles and continue to to this day. I have a 400 page book soon to be released where I take on this subject in depth.

Take heart: If you don't give up, your day will come. Hang in there.

Mr. Stace,
I know several people who have depression. When I think about them in prayer, my heart aches. From that, I know that the heart of our Lord is aching for you. I also can say that he desires to reach you and remove depression from you.

Would you prepare your heart so that Jesus can reach out to you? May I suggest this to you? For next one month, would you read the bible everyday and pray about the words you read? If the words you read are commands, obey them, I mean, make conscious efforts to obey them.

I had a thyroid problem. The gland was making too much thyroid hormone. Doctors pretty much damaged the gland on purpose. Now I have to take artificial thyroid hormone everyday.

I am sure you are taking depression medicine regularly, if not daily. Likewise, take up the task of reading the bible, praying, and obeying on a daily basis. As our body needs the medine daily, our soul needs the word of God daily. If you miss a day, say to the Lord you are sorry and continue. And let's wait if Jesus reaches out and heals you.

If you decide to give it a try, would you kindly keep me updated?
Rupert
Thanks. I do read my bible and pray every day. When I do slip and don't read, I can tell how it negatively affects me. Satan knows my weakest point. At times I am able to stand strong. Other times he hits me really hard, and I begin to question everything about God. To be honest, I don't view it as a weak point. It is more like a wound, that is never allowed to completley heal before it is hit again. I get angry at God becaue he could work a miracle in my life an heal or remove it, but for some reason doesn't. It just gets tiring fighting the same battle over and over.

I truly believe that God can heal anyone of any ailment. Perhaps the reason he has not "healed" you is not because you don't believe enough, but because God has a purpose for your hurt. Have you ever thought how much you can help others that are in situations like yours? One of my favorite phrases that I have heard, is God don't make mistakes. Sometimes God lets us be "hurt" so that our hearts might be open more to him and help others come closer to him through us.

I will pray for you, and if you ever need someone to talk to, I am here.

In Christ,
Kait

Hi MrStace:

First, know that many of us are praying for you, that you may know the depth of the Love the Father has for you in Christ; for He would not have any of us remain in darkness, but truly desires that we be set free from the deception and bondage of the enemy and live in the Light of His Son, Jesus.

There was a time in my life when I did not think God liked me very much, when my whole life seemed to go from misery to misery. Yet, I believed; I knew the Bible very well; and I knew there was a love in me for Him. But I could never seem to get close to Him, and never really saw any specific answers to my prayers. I always felt as if I was following Jesus from way back in the crowd; as if I was climbing hills, only to catch a glimpse of Him going over another hill far in front of me. Finally, I just got fed up and told Him, "Lord. I don't care if You like me or not! I am still going to love You!" And right then, I made up my mind to know Him personally.

So what I would like to offer you are some practical steps that He led me to take (although at the time, I did not realize it was Him leading me) that He used to grow me and teach me and help me find Him. And what a difference this has made in my own prayer life.

1) Guard your tongue. Become aware of what you say out loud, for your words can rob you of any blessings He has for you. No matter how you feel, how depressed you get, etc., don't allow yourself to start speaking from those feelings. There are a multitude of scripture in the both the OT and NT which teach this.

2) Praise God. This truly helps in guarding the words of your mouth as well as overcoming negative feelings. You don't have to try to conjure up reasons for praising Him for the situation, just make up your mind to praise Him in the situation. He lead me (and I still do this at times when necessary) to say out loud: "I praise you Father that I am not moved by my feelings, but only by your Word. I praise you Father that I am not moved by what others say about me, but only by your Word." And so on. Truly, praise works!

3) Get His Word from your mind to your spirit. Two ways to help with this are (a) to never read the Bible without praying first, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you in it; to open your heart to receive what He is teaching you; to open your understanding to grasp it. Etc. And (b) go through the NT finding every passage where it talks about who we are in Christ and who He is in us. In other words, everything positive that applies to us being new creatures in Him. Make a tape recording of your own voice saying these passages, applying them to yourself. Our spirits pay attention to what we say, and since it is with our hearts that we believe - not our minds - by saying His Word aloud we can re-program our inner man according to that Word. Example: "I am the Righteousness of God in Christ." Then, play that tape! I would put on headphones at night and play it as I went to sleep, night after night for weeks.

4) Don't try to believe for more than you have faith to believe. Faith is like a muscle; it must be exercised in order to grow. Just as you would not begin lifting weights with the maximum amount - the goal you want to reach - until you built up to it, so don't try to believe too far beyond what you know you can believe for. Judging this is tricky, I agree. But you have to start somewhere and I believe the Lord will guide you. Many, many times I have wanted to believe, but had to admit I really did not have that big of faith. Don't set yourself up to fail; but don't set your sights too low either. Exercise your faith and it will grow, until you can believe for big miracles.

5) Make it your primary goal to know Christ Jesus. More than anything else, seek to know the Giver rather than the gift. Humble yourself - in your attitude especially - before Him and trust Him to guide you. Remember that love is not a feeling, rather love causes feelings. We know He loves us - just like we know anyone loves us - because He says He does. His love for us is not dependent upon our feelings about it, anymore than our parents love for us was dependent upon our feelings. Realizing this is extremely important in our being able to trust Him, for our trust - our faith - is very much dependent upon our knowing and believing in His love for us in Christ. And we know He loves us because His Word says He does, and God does not lie.

6) Remember we have an enemy and he is a liar! Daniel prayed and even though the Lord heard his prayer the first day, it took 21 days for the answer to come. Pray, believe (because of His Word) that in the Name of Jesus we can be sure that the Father hears and answers our prayers, and then persevere in thanking Him for answering our prayer. The enemy delights in robbing of us of our joy, faith, confidence, peace, etc., as well as the answers to our prayers. Stay the course!

7) Practice listening. Set some time (20-30 minutes) aside each day to sit quietly before the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Get a notebook and write what you hear inside. Don't worry about getting big revelations - because you probably won't; and don't worry if you don't get anything - because you may not for awhile. Consider it as you would any conversation: both sides talk in a conversation, not just one. So you are allowing the Lord His opportunity to speak to you and not you just talking to Him. And write down what comes to you. And even when you do begin to hear from Him, don't expect some earth-shattering revelations. For a long time the Lord had me practice this, just to learn how to hear Him no matter what was going on around me. And I am still learning. But measure everything you hear against His Word! And seek to be obedient to what He tells you. It is when we are faithful on the little things that He will trust us with bigger things.

8) Seek His will first and always. The Lord will never get in line with us; we must always get in line with Him. In all your prayers - for others as well as for yourself, seek His will.

Just know this in your heart and mind and spirit, dear brother: God loves you! The Father does, because you believe in His Son; the Lord Jesus does, for He willing gave His soul up just for you; the Holy Spirit does, because He dwells within you, and Jesus sent Him to guide you in His love.

I pray this helps, although I realize I cannot write everything down here. But no matter what don't give up! Keep seeking Him. Strive to enter into Christ through that narrow door, for it will take everything - and being willing to lose everything - in order to find Him. Have the attitude of Paul in counting everything in your life as poop when compared to being found in Him. Knowing Jesus is truly worth all that we have, all that we are. He is the answer to all our prayers.

God does work through the world we live in. And it is supernatural, exspecially any healing. he does work "big" miracles, everyday I live, I realize what a miracle my salvation is.

Hi Kait,

Thank you for your prayers!! I know that you do have a very valid point. I will admit, that many of the "hurts" that I have experienced has allowed me to minister to others better. I have a more tender ear for those who are facing similar situations that I have been through. It does help to make be a better person in the end. I have been fighting with the same ones for a long time now, and it does get very tiring. Hopefully through so many peoples prayers it will end soon.

Hello Rupert.

Thanks, but you had no reason to apologize, nothing that you have said has been considered offensive. Sorry if something I said made you think that it was. There is not doubt that I have been under an attack. It has been fierce and Satan is attacking me in my weakest spots. To be honest, I have felt let down by God many times over the past year. Perhaps, one day I will understand. The past year of my life has been filled with harsh personal struggles and spiritual growth. Perfect time for a Satanic attack, right? Thanks for your prayers, I really appreciate when people pray for me. I would like a good shot of divine intervention right now.

I also wanted to comment. You mentioned talking to me like I had just joined the church. To be honest when Satan gets us in a tailspin, even the most mature Christian needs reminded of the basics. Satan is the author of confusion, and he sure does like to get us confused.

Thanks

everyone's word here is awesome! Mr. Stace, there are places on this earth where miracles are comonplace. Most of us Christians, including me, have not tapped into the fullness of what all God has for us. I am ashamed to say that we get caught up in our stuff. Iktca had a good word... read the bible and feast on it. Renewing your mind is key. Trust that even though you might not see what God is doing, he is faithful to complete his work in you. He cares for you and loves you. We as Christians have issues of not waiting on his timing. lol! We are just like children who want it right now. (points to herself) In the book of Daniel, Daniel prayed 21 days before his answer came. an arch angel appeared (I forgot which one0 and Daniel asked him what took him so long. The angel replied that he was fighting the principality (demon) of Persia. He had to war his way through to Daniel. Also, Abraham was accredited with faith for "calling that which isn't as though it was." when you pray, believe in what you pray. Stand on scripture as your legal document for your needs to be met, your life changed, etc. just don't let up until you see it come to pass, but not by complaining to God, but by saying "God I thank you that according to your word, that you are my provider. Not my hands, not my job, not my spouse's job, but you. Lord you also say that we are to work for our food. while I do not put my hope in a job, I need one to do as you have proclaimed. I thank you God for this provision, and I am standing in faith that it will come to pass in your timing, amen." That;s how you do it. That's how you stand. Get others to stand in agreement with you, and watch God move on your behalf.
Blessings :)
