I work at a Boy Scout summer camp, and I was partnered with someone I didn't really know (Maggie) to be a troop guide--staff members that help a group of people move into camp, show them around the place, and do a few other things.
The troop that Maggie & I were supposed to guide was late...3 hours late.
In that time, we had a 3-hour long, dominantly theological discussion about our lives and the influence of God & the Saints & vanilla ice cream (hey, it wasn't all theological!). I saw a picture of who I thought was Mary, but as she soon told me, it was a picture of St. Therese on the back of her phone, and as we talked, we found out that we were each very passionate about Catholicism, and I just felt so safe to say anything around her. We both told our life stories, things were doing, ways we've changed over the years, and including details we've never told anyone else before.
I've since adopted her as my little sister (not legally or anything, just something that close friends sometimes do), and she has been an awesome person to inspire me, challenge me, and keep my faith stronger than ever throughout what has become a very stressful summer.
There's so many more details I could give of amazing ways God's worked through her, but I don't want to crash anyone's computer as they try to load this, so I'll leave it at that.
Thank you, God, not only for sending me an awesome little sister, but helping me to be so good to her, too. For the Catholics in the audience, she has a lot of connections with St. Therese of Lisieux (her birthday is St. Therese's feast day, her Church is called St. Therese's, and more), and as I've been reading about St. Therese sending roses from heaven, I'm fully convinced that Maggie is a rose that was sent to me.
