Genesis 11:

7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.
God confused humanity's language.

Moses warned the Israelites in Deuteronomy 28:

20 The LORD will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to.
28The LORD will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind
But then in the NT, New King James Version, 1 Corinthians 14:

33a For God is not the author of confusion but of peace.
Nestle Greek New Testament 1904:

οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἀκαταστασίας ὁ Θεὸς ἀλλὰ εἰρήνης
The word "author" is not there. On Biblehub, only 5 out of 28 versions have "the author" in this verse. They are King James Bible, New King James Version, King James 2000 Bible, American King James Version, and Webster's Bible Translation.

My translation:

For God is not of confusion/disorder but of peace.
Paul did not say:

  1. God is not the author of confusion, or
  2. God is not the God of confusion.
Paul said, "God is not of confusion." It is better to stick to the wording of the original manuscript. Further, let's check the context:

1Co 14:

26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
That's the setting: coming together for a church service.

31 For you can all prophesy one by one,
One at a time. Prophets, be orderly; don't be shouting all at once.

so that all may learn and all be encouraged, 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
Even prophets during the church service should be orderly.

33 For God is not of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, 34 the women should keep silent in the churches.
Women, be orderly; don't disrupt the church service.

For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
God is for order during a church service, not chaos. Don't let prophets and women disrupt the service.

Some Christians misinterpret 1Co 14:33a. They take it out of context and overgeneralize it to say that no confusion in the universe is from God. This passage is not about the character of God but about the character of orderly worship during a church service.
