Hey guys
Hope you all had an amazing weekend!
Ive been confused about a certain issue.
Gen 1:26 says that God gave dominion over to man right?
And then my pastor says that the dominion that God gave man has been given over to Satan because of the sin that we give in to, and thus the reason for all the evil in the world. Evil meaning Tsunami we just had, Hatred, anger etc. Now I was wondering if my pastor is right, then how can God be in control over our lives? Like what would be the point of trusting God if he is not in control?
Any help on sheding light on this situation would be awesome!
Thank you and God Bless!

Hi there. Glad you had a wonderful weekend! My weekend has been going well too.

From what I understand, God allows evil to co-exist with good in this world. Thus, God is still in control and He will not give us more than we can handle. I think by God allowing all of us "free will", we have the choice to either follow Satan or God. But how that relates to natural disasters, I don't know.

As far as natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.), I know opinions vary from pastor to pastor depending on the denomination. Some denominations believe the natural disasters are not from God, while others believe it is. I don't know if there is an absolute "correct" answer to that one. Maybe someone else could shed some light for us on your question. It's a good question though. :)

With the question of what is evil aside; Yes God gave dominion to Adam, Adam gave it to Satan, and as Paul writes in Ephesians, "(Satan) is the prince of this world".
God has laid down the rules of existence, if He does not obey the rules Himself, how can He expect us to?
God opreates (legally) in this world through His people who hear and obey Him; this is why it is so important to listen to the still quiet voice of thr Holy Spirit, and obey Him.

Gen 1:26 truly says that God gave us the dominion over the living creatures of the earth. With the fall of Adam and Even, we lost some of the dominion but we are not completed stripped of it. Still wild animals fear man. Unless we wade into aligators, when we walk to aligators basking in the sun, they run away from us into water. Hitchcock's movie Birds portrays the potential power of birds. But they are afraid of man and avoid us, rather than attacking us. All indicate that God did not completely remove the dominion from us.

I am in no position to oppose your pastor. But I cannot think of any bible passage that explains that man handed the dominion over to Satan. I believe the parable of weed sheds some light on the power of Satan.

In gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. (Matthew 13:29)

Satan's power (of evil) comes from that he is holding the precious souls of men as hostages, too precious to lose any in God's eyes. God has the power to remove Satan in a sweep even now. He is delaying it until the hostages are freed from Satan's grip.

Son of Man came ..... to give his life a ransom for many (Matt 20:28)

God paid the ransom to Satan by hanging his own Son. The ransom was to free all the hostages.

Since the ransom has been paid already, God will soon remove Satan and his followers from the earth, and bring us to his kingdom, a place better than the Garden of Eden.

On the subject of natural disasters, the bible says very clearly that rain, snow, lightning, sea, and all natures are in the hands of God. Read Job 38, for instance. Satan has no power over tsunami nor a single drop of rain. Rather, Elijah, a man, had the power to stop rains.

Some great posts in here.

Also, remember in the book of Job, when satan wanted to tempt Job to turn from God (because the enemy believed that Job was faithful only because of his blessinds), he has to ASK permission from God. And not only that, but God only allowed his to do certain things, therefore controlling what the enemy could do.

The Father controls all there is (thank goodness :) )

I also don't see that natural disasters are evil, in the moral sense. They've always happened, it's just now there are people in areas where these things occur. It is the way nature works, and if it weren't for the terrible loss of life, or any loss of life, we could see the beauty of these things.
