  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God is Bigger!

Matthew 8:26... He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Have you ever driven in a storm? A big storm - with lighting and thunder that shakes the road?

I was in a storm like that once when I was driving on my way home. It was scary to drive in the middle of this. I did think of the above passage where Jesus calms the storm, and I did think that it would be nice if He calmed this particular storm I was in the midst of right now. So I prayed "Jesus please calm this storm".

Well, the physical storm did not go away - although I believe Jesus can and still will calm physical storms if we ask. What He did do was this, He reassured me that He was still with me, and that He would never leave. I felt such a sense of peace, of calm.

And yes, I did make it home safely.

We will face many 'storms' during this life, while we are on the way home to Jesus. Isn't it wonderful to know that He is with us every step, in every storm? And He can give us peace, sometimes He calms the storms around us, sometimes He calms the storms within.

This reminded me that God is bigger than any storm we may face in this life and Jesus is there to bring us safely home.

I ran across this phrase shortly after thinking about storms. I needed to remember this too.

Stop telling God how big your storm is. Instead, tell the storm how big your God is!

Joshua 1:9... Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Matthew 28:20... I am with you always... to the very end of the age.

Hebrews 13:5... Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

Psalm 9:10... Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD , have never forsaken those who seek you.

___________

Thank You Lord that You are a Lord who is bigger than any storm, any pain, any circumstance we may face. Help us each remember this next time we find ourselves in the middle of a storm. Help us each look for You, remind us that You are right by our sides. And with You by our sides we will have Your strength and courage to face life and be led safely home. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
