I have noticed that frequently when I study about Catholicism or tell someone about Christ/the Church or even just while praying, I will be overcome with the shivers. I'm talking full body, can't shake them off, teeth chattering shivers. It's like I feel cold and can't get warm (and incidentally the temp of the room has nothing to do with it because the moment I divert my attention to something else, the shivers stop). It used to be to the extent that I would cry everytime I'd try to talk about Christ or pray aloud. --I'm even shivering now--

Has anyone ever heard of this? What could it be???

Yep! And you can feel really cold. Some call it the refrigerator of God. :D

One time I was in Dallas TX for a weekend christian gathering (this was well before I had any inkling that I would be converting to Catholicism) in the middle of summer. I decided to stay an extra day to take advantage of lower air fares. That day I decided to stay in my hotel room in prayer. The air conditioner was on and it was close to 100 outside.

Shortly after entering into prayer, the room became very cold. So cold I had to turn off the air conditioner. As the hours went by, with the air conditioner off and the sun beating on the sliding glass window to the balcony, the room stayed quite cold. I thought it was God, but I began to wonder if it really was natural . and as I did so, the cold absolutely stopped and the room was stifling muggy. I tlod the Lord "OK! I believe it is you!" and it was immediately back.

It stayed cold all day and all night in that room without the air condition in the muggy high temps of a Dallas summer. When I left for the airport around 11:00 am, I thought I should turn the air conditioner back on for whoever would be occupying the room next . . and I left the room with that coolness around me.

The refrigerator of the Lord . .. :) it is real.

Peace in Him!

Wow! That is weird. Has there ever been 'documented' events like this? Does the church have an explanation for it?

Edited to add: Christy4Christ...this round of shivers are your fault! I got them talking about the adoration in your other thread;)

I would say it's along the same lines if its an actual physical response (more so than just the emotional one). It really is like that being in a fridge -- that was a perfect explaination of what happens. I actually had to stop typing and watch tv for a couple minutes to warm up (no joke).

You're definitely not alone. I get those all the time.

Also, when I am in deep prayer in my icon corner, I often get this wonderful stirring feeling that centers right under my heart. I think my soul is being illumined in those times.

I have had the shivers in the past, and its kept me from speaking up when I really felt I needed to say something in the past. I do not have them anymore; now that I am more accustomed to speaking about Jesus in front of groups (30-45 people) of people. It took a while for me to get over them.

Did you ever get them when praying by youself? -- That's the part I don't understand, I would think it was nervousness from speaking in front of others (which btw is something I don't typically get nervous about), but because it happens in my own room with the door shut same as it does when I'm in public or with others, I just don't understand.
