God exists, but how does this fit?

Hey, i just wanted to hear your responses on this... I've been having a scripture course and we're currently going through Genesis. Check this definition of Inspiration out--if you agree with this your the poeple who need to respond--The entire bible is inspired by God, it is everything God wants to say, necessary for salvation--It is not dictatorship, yet every word of the bible are God's words, what he wanted to convey. In the class we're taking, the person(s) writing Genesis, use all sorts of different culture's religious ideas, and sort of combine it into one story with radical ideas (ie one God, Man is good etc). So how can the Genesis story really be the word of God, if we didn't even get, for example, the FLOOD story and the first creation story ourselves? the flood story, and similar creation stories were floating around in other culutres like this....it jsut bothers me--can this really be God's work if the Hebrews are taking it from different culutres and putting a little twist on it??... so just some thought on that... maybe i'm not explaining myself enough...for those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about PM me so i can tell you in more depth. for all you scholars out there, how is the word of God authentic if it's just all these mixed, pagan, religions in one? oh i am a christian in case your wondering....

Hi Matrixx,
Is this a Bible study? I love them because they are usually very productive and there is great fellowship.

Anyway.
Man exists in three parts, or realms. There is the physical, mental (or soulish), and the spiritual. The Bible was primarily written to talk to the spiritual part of man. People who try and turn it into a science textbook and use it in the physical and mental realms will be disappointed and confused.
The history portion of the OT especially is full of types and shadows. These show us God and spiritual things in a vague and non-detailed picture. If you want the exact and perfect image of God, go to the New Testament and look at Jesus. He is the exact image of God. HE came to show us the Father, and He succeeded!
Blessings

My question to you is this: If people cannot turn to the bible for physical and mental realms, what can serve as a basis for a belief in creation, or any other aspect related to the physical or mental realm. The bible is God's inspired word with instructions for every aspect of life.

To this I would respond: The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In order the get the best image of God (Which we will never fully be able to comprehend) you must look at all the facets of Him. Including those that are seen in the Old Testiment.
