"God doesn't paint ants green"

3yoDS was playing with a bucket full of miscelaneous small rubber creatures and vehicles. DH was hunting up all the dragonflys and came up with a airplane.

DH said "It has wings, is it a dragonfly?"
DS "No"
DH "How do you know it isn't a dragonfly?"
DS "Cause it flys up higher in the sky than a dragonfly"

After pointing out a few other things that were different (legs vs wheels, number of wings, ect) I asked DS what he was holding.

DS "a praying mantis"
Me "how do you know, why isn't it an ant?"
DS "Cause it's green, God doesn't paint ants green"

I about died trying not to laugh

But now I am left wondering, does He? I only know about black and red ants, but... I don't know much about insects.

Maybe in some tropical country but as far as I know in North America our ants are black, brown & red.

Found some info on green ants for you. The first sight shows a pic of green ants, but they don't look green to me. I am assuming that is just the name for them. The second website is really neat. It is all about ants. Hope these help.

Ants
(Australia)(Australia, Northern Territory.) In the North of Australia a favorite type of bush-tucker is the abdomen of small 'green ants'. The ants themselves have brown bodies and legs, but a large green abdomen which curiously shares a similar flavor to lemon sherbet. To eat them you pick them up by their head and squash it (so they won't bite you) then bite off the abdomen and enjoy the taste sensation. Beautiful!
