Psalms 91:1-16 addresses our living on earth and our passing away to the next life. It is God’s Promise to protect us in all our days on earth, and to be with Him when our time comes to leave earth. In Psalms 91 there is a divide between the two.
If we are in God, then on the day in which it is our turn to pass on, the Lord will stop protecting us on and He will prepare for our arrival to forever be in His Shadow, as referred to in Verse 1. The Lord says, in Verse 16, “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” His Salvation is in the form of His House which He has prepared for us to dwell in forever when the time comes.
There are many ways we can pass on, but in every way, be it so-called natural causes, disease, an act of violence, it is the Lord who prepares for our passing. Job 12:10 says “In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” Ephesians 1:11 says, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will...” Psalms 139:16 says, “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
For those who love God, every day above ground is a good day, along with an expectation that when our time comes to pass on, we will be dwelling in the shadow of the Most High.
