God created man in His own image --- For God so loved the World

In Genesis 1:27 we read: "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." What does that mean that we were created in the Image of God? We read in John 3:16: ""For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

Perhaps when we are born again then we are transformed into the Image of God.

Man represents God.

I believe you have to look at both Ge 1:26 and Ge 1:27. We are both, like God and represent God. This has not all been lost in The Fall. Ge 9:6 is after The Flood and affirms that man is in the image of God. Ja 3:9 affirms this likeness of God in people and no distinction is made between the saved or the unsaved. We cannot make a complete list of how man is in God's image and likeness because to fully comprehend and understand all the aspects of God is beyond human ability.
