  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You hear about this being a sin often, though I don't remember any scripture pertaining to it off hand. What to you constitutes as gluttony? Is it sin? Use Scripture if you think it'll help. I don't know much on this issue, so I'm hoping to learn..

I don't remember the Scripture off hand for it, but it was considered a very serious sin in the middle ages, since there was not enough food to go around. There was a time when I was being convicted of it, and during the middle of it I was visiting some Greek Christians. That was tough, because Greeks are insulted if you don't eat a LOT - and they will stuff you beyond full for the main course, and then tell you it's time for dessert! So I believe now that when addressing this issue, love for others must be highly considered.

Perhaps this will help:

". ..In some Christian denominations, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins—a misplaced desire of food or its withholding from the needy....."

"Gluttony in the Bible

Gluttony is addressed by the Biblical teachings of moderation (Ecclesiastes 7:18) and self-control (Galatians 5:23; Titus 2:12).

It is mentioned most in the book of Proverbs, e.g.,

“Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” (Proverbs 23:20-21)

“He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” (Proverbs 28:7)

“When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.” (Proverbs 23:2)

The view of gluttony as one of the Seven Deadly Sins is rooted in the physical destructiveness of excess consumption of food or drink.

At the same time, gluttony can cause an individual to focus so intensely on physical desires that the life of the spirit is stunted or forgotten.

As a case in point, Emperor Claudius of Rome was, according to Suetonius, a notorious glutton who would bathe in food and gulp down priceless pearls dissolved in vinegar.
This self-indulgent personality, never checked by parent or court, led to excesses of violence as well."

To be honest you don't hear about
The word as much as possible
Like other words as that is the word
You only hear from the Bible.
But outside it, you rarely hear it if ever.
