  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my youth minister was talking about God's will the other night and how do we know God's will for our lives. he said if it glorifies God, do it. i'm not sure i agree with that. i don't know why i don't, but it just doesn't sound right. i mean, yes, we should do what glorifies the Lord, i'm not disagreeing with that. hmmm...i'm not sure why i think it sounds fishy...but i do. i've been looking up scripture, but i can't seem to find anything that says that. but i can't find anything that says anything against it.

The purpose of man is to live to glorify God by living like Jesus, as opposed to pursuing selfish ends which society currently advocates with its 'its all about you and what you deserve' consumer mentality. Think about it. Jesus sacrificed himself to glorify God's mercy and love toward mankind.

BlackRain - Rather than a wrong answer, I think you got a very simplistic or incomplete answer. The thing that God wants you to do will glorify God if you do it correctly... but different people can do other things that will also give glory to God.

We will know God's will and direction for us when we know and recognize His voice leading us. God will speak to us in a wide variety of ways - the Bible, from other people, through prayer, through circumstances, buring bushes and handwriting on the wall and the ocassional 2X4 upside the head when we are not paying attention.

Focus on hearing and knowing God's voice to you.

bliz is correct.

King Saul made a large sacrifice to the Lord after invading an enemy city. On the surface this was a good thing to do, something that would give glory to God. But he was in rebellion against his spiritual authority. His action resulted in his death, his son Jonathon's death, and the death of his dynasty.

God's will is for you to be obedient in glorifying Him, not just in not sinning, as we can get too wrapped up in that at times. But more towards our love for one another, and by love I mean Godly love that is described in 1 Cor. 13. Check it out. Love is the fulfillment of the law.

John 6:28-29 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

What is God's will for you? That you live your life "by faith in the Son of Man" (Gal 2:20)

Outside of that, the Bible doesn't say what God wants you to do.

It's clear that God doesn't want you living in sin.

John 10:1 says "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep"

We are His sheep inside His pen. We are free to graze anywhere we want as long as we are in His pen, and we will be safe.

So remain in His "pen" and you can do whatever you wish to do, and you will be doing His will, because His will is for you to live by faith.

So - if you are living by faith in Christ, and you want to fix cars, then fix cars. If you want to teach history, then teach history. If you want to be an actress, then be an actress.

The key is whether or not it is within His boundaries - inside His "pen".
